The old lady and I are planning a two day one night fishing/camping trip on the Brazos, somewhere between Waco and PK. The plan being, put in on day one, head up stream, camp, then return day two.... Mixing in plenty of fishing along the way. Plan on taking my little 12 ft John boat with my 2 hp Johnson. Was wondering if anyone could recommend a particular section of the river. Quality fishing is obviously important, but things like good scenery, and good camping spots deserve consideration too! Thanks y'all!

Only place I think you could get away with the John boat would be Ham creek above Whitney. The river below PK is too shallow and the river below Whitney can be too shallow and then a raging torrent without notice. Maybe down by Waco would be good. Not sure what the flow is like down there when Whitney is Generating.

Chris Schaeffer guided for years on the section below Whitney in a fourteen foot jon boat with a bow mounted electric motor. He had one of the most stable, comfortable fishing platforms I've ever been on, and was the inspiration for my current shallow boat.

I always say that for an overnighter, you can't beat the float below PK. 20 miles, good fishing and plenty of places to camp.
There's a ramp to launch and could have Rochelle's shuttle your truck back to their place. As long as their is decent flow, a jon boat is doable.
Everytime I've floated it, I've seen people in all kinds of canoes and jons with small outboards and some in bigger boats with jets.

Maybe I should just call around to some of the rental places to see what the river is doing? Also maybe contact the Brazos River Authority? Planned on doing that anyways to make sure they weren't planning any huge water let outs that might surprise an otherwise very comfy campsite haha. Thank you everyone for your input.
