Progator 74 and Kelly,

Last Feb on Fork, two of our club members swamped a Nitro at the mouth of Lil' Caney and went into the water. If they had not been near shore and were able to get out of the lake, who knows what the end result would have been.

They waited four hours on the bank for someone to see them and pick them up!

If there is a lesson in all this, maybe it is to stay close to shore in rough water in case anything unexpected happens and you're thrown into the water. Then, you can either stay with the boat if it is there or swim for the bank if it has sunk.

I also believe a full face helmet is a must for the guys that drive/ride boats in rough water to help protect against being knocked unconscious if a rogue wave causes the boat to hit hard and jostle the occupants around.

By the way, I didn't see any helemts inthe pic that was posted!

Those guys in the picture are irrepsonsible and unsafe!

Winnsboro.... Just because we all lost a great guy and fellow fisherman in a Triton in a truely rare accident (that even you don't know how it exactly happened) is no reason to call everyone that happens to go airborne at one time or another "an idiot". If you are on the water enough, it's going to happen at some time or another. Let's see... the deaf mute incident was 14 years ago (and YES he still remembers it and signs to me that it was something he will always remember). The other incident at Amistad was about 5 years ago.

Let's see..... that's two times in 31 years of tournament fishing. Figure about 40 weeks out of the year for 31 years and you have no less than 1240 times on numerous lakes. Guess I had better be more careful!!! confused You get on Amistad, Big Sam, Texoma or Toledo Bend and you had better have the gonads to put it in the air sometimes or you will sink when you spear an 8' tall wave! rolleyes For all we know, that boat may have been going only 15 mph and the waves are such big rollers that they "fall" out from under you when you go over them. Been there and done that too!!!!

Lighten UP!!!! rolleyes rolleyes

I just have to put in my 2 cents worth. I have to agree with The Hag. If you are out there enough, things are going to happen. Hopefully you come home. Out of 20 years of serious boating and fishing I have had more than a couple of serious rides across the water and I consider myself very careful. Anyway, Jeez it's just a cool picture.
