I've never owned one but they sure are popular, what is it about them that makes them worth the price tag? I know looks can be deceiving especially with lures but it looks just like a pop r.

Reason I ask is I have been looking at buying one, what size and color do yall recommend?

Biggest difference I can tell in it is how it will "walk". Never had another popper that would walk as easy as the yellow magic does.

I am pretty cheap/non-believer in fads/old school. Bought a couple for a tournament on Amistad and wouldn't throw another now. Totally worth it. They flat out catch fish.

I start throwing them late spring through the fall. Always throw 1/4 oz and only a few patterns. Smoke shad, tenn shad, japanese shad and bone. I throw only 1 of those colors 90% of the time I'm throwing a YM. Have the others as backups. Coachmas

There are several answers to you question.

1. You can spit water up 2 and over 8' with the lures face, not so on the Pop R;

2. Makes a little different sound than the Pop R;

3. As mentioned, you can walk the dog with it, not so the Pop R;

4. You can CHUG IT, SPIT IT and GURGLE IT, not so the Pop R;

I have 21 of the discontiued 3/8 oz Yello Magic Plus 1s. They are bigger fish baits and work well on small fish to large fish. I have fished 1 YM against 5 Pop R's and kicked their butts 11 to 1, from 5 guides/professional anglers. THEY JUST WORK BETTER, in most instances. I have been fishing them since 2000, so they aer NOT a new fad, but older and yes, I still have some of the 1/4 oz and 1/2 oz, but nothing works as good as the 3/8 HM Plus 1 You can normally buy them (YM Plus 1) from Japan off of Ebay for $20-25. I just bought two YM lures. I had no idea they could spit water eight feet! That's going to be a sight to see!

I fished a good size pond 2 weeks ago and started the day throwing a 1/2 ounce YM Magnum. Almost immediately I caught fish with it. I fished about 7 hours on this pond that day and caught a total of 59 bass, all but two of them came on that same YM I started the day with.

Yeah, they catch fish....

Won bb during a tourney at pk last year about this time on one. They are worth every penny!

YM are overpriced junk, especially the 1/4 smoke shad, straight up garbage. Send them to me and I will dispose of them properly...

Aside from the basic appearance, as you can see from the comments, they're nothing alike.

Buy one or two and try them. You'll see.
