Braid is great because of the obvious break strength but to me that the only good thing about it. Mono stretches which allows the fish to pull without pulling the hook. Also if you get hung with braid its a total hassle if you're not running a mono leader.

I prefer braid over mono because it doesnt stretch for a more solid hook set using circle hooks and when fishing cover it is way more durable against cuts and wear in the line. on hangups it is tougher to break but I now keep a leather glove in the boat to make breaking the line easier and protecting the spool and line from more damage by not putting that pressure on the line that is on the spool and from bending the spool as well as not cutting my hands while trying to protect my gear and line. Picked that trick up from the box fish hero.
Why are we all here? Because we are not all there!

I have never used anything by Team Catfish. I use Cajun Red mono up to 14lb. Over 14lb I use Berkeley big game mono. For braided line I use Cabelas RipCord Pro yellow exclusively now. I like the RipCord line because it seems to tie better knots for me and doesn't seem to fray as bad as some others. It also works the best on my spinners. Others will have their own preferences I'm sure.

I use TC Tug-o-War braid and have for years. I use the yellow and normally use it for 1 year or even more before reversing it. The color holds very well. I fish probably 50+ days a year and put this line through a lot. I have caught 2 blues over 100 pounds and numerous from 65-85 pounds, all with TC braid. Big Sam, Regan, 7777 and I use the 80 and 100 pound for circle hook fishing and 65 pound for punchbait fishing in summer. I do spool it on dry but will wet it the first time out by throwing out a sinker as far as I can, stripping off more line and then reeling it in wet. It seats well on the reel and doesn't throw backlashes much. This is my .02 cents worth. ccat

I use 50 lb. premium salt water ande for leaders. I still have some 30 lb. ande spooled on some 6000 and 6500 reels. I mainly fish braid these days and have for years, both have their place and it is a personal preference. Try both some people love braid and some people hate it. I cut the barrel off of an old wood bat and wrap the braid around it. Pull it tight then give it a quick jerk, either the leader breaks, the hook straightens or the tree will come with it . Do not wrap the line around your reel like you do with mono or it will damage your reel. DO NOT wrap braid around your and or fingers or it WILL CUT YOU.

I prefer mono. I use whisker seeker sunburst orange line. Smaller diameter than big game. Great castability and strength. I use 20lb for channel and 30lb for blues and flathead. Just my 2 cents but in 30 years of catfishing there line and catfish rods are hands down the best quality for the price.

I was reluctant for years to switch to braided line Finally 7777 convinced me about 5 years back...everyone gripes about the price....I got reels that have the same braid on it from 5 yrs ago I use Team catfish all the way..
If it ain't broke don't fix it...but go ahead and work on it anyway.....

I do not use any Team Catfish products other than the dead red spray. Everything they sell is about 3x more expensive than other alternatives and I do not believe it is any better.
I also prefer mono over braid. I use 30# High vis Yellow Cabela's offshore angler mainline and 80# clear leader.

Optimus my thoughts exactly...we were on Tawakoni around 2009 in the winter and my ABU started peeling drag in heavy timber I thumbed the spool (80lb) tug-of-war and shut her down and pulled the fish around a tree...weighed 60...... Sometimes I am amazed..i see 200 dollar reels 150 dollar rods with 2.00 mono on it and a 10 cent hook lost half their line ..then it broke...then they complain and wonder why....... Speaking for myself I use what has been proven to work.... no skimping from me I was reluctant for years to switch to braided line Finally 7777 convinced me about 5 years back...everyone gripes about the price....I got reels that have the same braid on it from 5 yrs ago I use Team catfish all the way.. I mainly run Offshore Angler in 25#. Braid in the river for flatheads in the hairy spots mainly for piece of mind. OA has pulled 40+ fish out of trees at Twok and Arrowhead. One 63 that was wrapped up at Twok got pulled out with it. Stout stuff man.

I just switched from 50lb spider wire braid too off shore angler 25lb test mono... I rarely ever anchor, especially this year... Drifting is my method of choice. I found with braid and drifting I missed a lot of fish.. When I switched to mono I noticed an immediate increase in hook up rate. I believe the more stretch from the line I can get when a fish picks up a moving bait the more time it has to get the hook down before he realizes he's got a hook.. With the fish I've caught with mono the hook was either deeper in the mouth, or actually penatrated the fish better... I believe in braid's strength, but it does me little good drifting when the fish spits the hook.. If I anchored more I'd def stick with braid.. But I love drift fishing.
