They may be forming eggs already with the warmer temps.

I've caught them as early as April 1st, but it's usually best in May.

Water temp shallow where I was fishing yesterday was 55.2 That's where I caught 2 nice eater channels. No eggs but gorged on shad. It won't be long. Might be a good time to start baiting some holes in shallow water.
From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."
Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!

You can get them at Asian Markets, and sometimes at Mexican Markets.

When the temp hits 70 its game on. I've been catching them on the rocks in about 5'. Chum the area with range cubes, wait about 20 minutes. Use punch bait with a #6 treble. Egg weight 1/4,3/8,1/2 depending on wind. Line tension is the key.

what do you mean by line tension, I've always kept my lines tight but a few years ago fishing for yellows I learned to keep the line loose and let them run with it before ripping them lips.

Just enough tension to feel any movement. If you have slack in the line you will miss the bite, also keeping the line tight during the fight is just as important. It’s a treble hook not a circle hook.
