Do bass Guides hook fish and then hand-off rod to customers? Just wondering if that is a common practice.

Only if they ask. I haven't had a client ever ask but maybe another guide has. I would say this not a common practice unless they have children on board and they are assisting the parents with taking off fish or catching.

I had an 6 hour skunk trip onetime with a popular guide on Fork. As we were heading into the dock, he hooked a 4lber the first action of any sort we had seen all day. He passed the rod my direction, I was stunned and tried to refuse, but in the confusion he was able to force my hands closed around the rod. Much to my embarrassment I reeled the fish in. I still carry the shame with me to this day.

Even my 7 year old won't take a fish caught that way, it would be shameful to accept the rod.

Agreed. It just all happened so fast. A lesser man would probably have to see a therapist about it.

I do not and never would cause that is not teaching you the customer to catch fish. I have seen it and heard about it all my life here. Not right in my opinion.

Had a Striper guide do it once. It was the only fish either of us hooked all day. I didn't mind.

I'm not a guide, but tried this with my grandson when he was old enough to hold the rod. To this day he will say PawPaw caught the fish and I reeled it in. I would say this is justification that he needs to "catch and reel" in his own fish.

I don't set the hook, but I have been known to be fishing a soft plastic of some kind and suddenly request a kid to hold my rod and they usually hook up extremely quick. Weird huh?

I've never experienced it. It wouldn't make a poor day good IMO. Most guides say they don't fish with you unless you want them too.
