Well, it was windy. I was using my anchor as a "drift sock" in some coves to slow me down.
I only found a reasonable number of fish in two places. Highport marina where I couldn't get a bite (is it normal to not be able to get a bite when there are millions of shad in the area?), and a cove west of the 377 bridge. I only had 5 bites all day with three in the cove on live bait and one nibble on a wild eye swim shad. Two of the bites turned into twin 5 pounders.
Highport was completely full of shad all day long and even a novice like myself could easily catch them. What is the best way for me to keep them alive??? I have on oval livewell that is about 20 inches long and 16 inches high.
I had caught the two 5 pounders on live shad (one of them was just twitching, but he was moving a little). I fished for another hour with dead shad, but didn't get any bites. Then I made the run to Highport and back with more shad, I instantly had one bite, then it was over, didn't mark more fish and didn't get more bites.
Shad catching is usually hit or miss for me. What is the best way to refresh my shad supply in the middle of the day from a random point on the lake?
Pointers are always welcome.
Thanks,
Greg
