Buddy stayed there years ago and we are planning my first trip ever and his first since about 2000. Good place to stay and a good area to fish?

Holly Park, one of the best, most friendly places you can stay at Toledo Bend. Ronnie, Lisa and the crew will make you feel at home. Been staying there since 1972.
Mid lake from Patroon Creek over to 1215 and south to Pendleton Bridge area is a very productive area of the lake.

As MDM said, great folks. I've been staying their for years. Trailers, cabins are very clean. Great burgers and fries. Fishing in Patron is ok, but you can do better! Have fun and good luck. Stay in the boat lanes

Stay in the boat lanes Are there some good spots that aren't a long run or trailer job away from Holly Creek? We don't want specific spots just some creeks or general areas.

The only drawback with that area is North Wind can be brutal. If weatherman says 10 mph multiply x 3

Windfinder is a good place to get wind reports for Toledo and accurate.

If the wind is up you can launch right there at Holly Park and enjoy excellent fishing in Patroon. It runs mostly east and west with some creeks, islands, and stuff that you can hide behind. Shallow flats on the north side of Patroon heading tword the mainlake hold tons of fish. Patroon has it all.. grass, timber, channel swings, and even a few docks. You can spend all day in there and never touch the mainlake. If the wind isnt up there is plenty of great areas within a short boat run... of course a short boat run on T Bend is like 15 miles. LOL.

This is very true...when are you planning your trip? From spawn till early summer is great in patroon. From the front to the back it is like it's own lake.
The driving force and secret desire of every bass fisherman, is to one day be a crappie fisherman............Could it be that the good Lord just smilies and looks the other way when a fisherman tells a lie?
