Nice looking fish! I look forward to fishing the Sabine every year. It's been an annual trip for the last seven or eight years. Nothing like it.

Yea. Watch the flow if it gets too high it can be really tough. You have obviously experienced that same as I have. Yep, but I'm going either way. The only really BAD trips we've had were when the river was in flood stage. If Jane's low water ramp is usable we can usually find some fish stacked up somewhere. After 5 weeks of working 6-7 days a week, I need a vacation, and no better place to unwind!
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space!

My son and I made the drive from FloMo to Carthage on Saturday afternoon and fished the Sabine on Sunday morning using our kayaks. Took us a little while to find a school, but when we did the action was fantastic. We caught about 50 between us, kept none, and what was amazing to me was the consistently large size - both length and girth. Maybe 4-5 fish under 13 inches, the rest were all 13-18 inches and hefty. We found that the largest lures we had in our box worked best - larger lures than we would normally use for spawning whites. Rooster tails, Mepps spinners, spoons and a crank bait all worked. Since we know we had found a large school, we experimented to see if any lures in the box did not work, and about the only one that did not was my "go to" bait in the DFW area - the L'il Fishie (probably not getting deep enough in a fairly strong current). A long round trip drive for half a day of fishing, but well worth it. The legend of the Sabine whites is valid.

Good job, good report. Where did y'all put in at?
The driving force and secret desire of every bass fisherman, is to one day be a crappie fisherman............Could it be that the good Lord just smilies and looks the other way when a fisherman tells a lie?

.... The legend of the Sabine whites is valid. Largest white bass anywhere!! Ditto on the larger lures.

There is a long sand bar at River Ridge that you can bank fish.
