Looking at taking my wife down to the coast towards the end of Feb. Does anyone have any reports or suggestions? I will also have a Kayak with me. Thanks for your help.

If you have access to a boat, the big drum should be running in the Corpus ship channel. Anchor up opposite the naval base with crab or sea lice and hold on! Not good to eat, but a fun pull. Mangrove snapper can be found around most of the harbors in that area. Use live shrimp with little or no weight. No limits on those, but anything under 10-12" really isn't worth keeping. If there's been some sun, the flats will hold reds and trout, if not, look for them around channel edges and drop-offs. Good luck!

I am looking at heading down sometime between now and mid march and the fishing should be great. Rockportbob is right on. We actually like to target sheepshead during these months, along with mangroves but we will more than likely leave the boat behind and just head south on PINS and spend the weekend catching trout and whatever else wants to bite. Find you some structure(rocks and bridge pilons) and you should be able to find an infinite supply of mangroves and sheepshead.

One more note, the fishing will get better in the surf as the water temps warm just a little. I believe the temps are still in the low to mid 50's and once it hits about 60, give or take a few, the fishing should fire up. Good luck

My only suggestion is to watch out for those fronts and find some shell and mud.

On the upper coast, fish flats close to a deeep water dropoff in the afternoon, big baits, fish slow.(for whomper trout and reds) also sheepsheads at the jetties close to the rocks.
