A few days ago I run across a great deal on some power pro braid line on EBay. 500 yards of 20 lb test for $7 total. Today I hear the doorbell and the UPS man drops of a package that is in a 16x24 inch box. Care to guess what was in the package. Simply amazing a company would ship such a small item in such a large box. Shipping was free for me but wonder how some people stay in business.

Companies that ship all the time get discounted shipping prices...some are quite a bit less than what the consumer would pay.

Reggie On a side note, I'm seriously doubtful you got authentic PowerPro braid. You probably know the old saying? It may be some type of braid, but that's about it. PowerPro has a huge counterfeit issue. Don't believe me, contact them and see what they have to say: Power Pro, 1 Holland Dr, Irvine, CA 92618 Phone: 877-577-0600 (9am to 7pm EST)

A nice lady answered the phone and had me read the lot number. She confirmed it was the real thing and advised me it was manufactured on 6/18/15. She did confirm that counterfeiting has been a huge problem out of Asia. She advised me to back my reel with electrical tape to to keep the braid from spinning. The spool itself looks like it has been sitting on a shelf for a good while. The box is all beat up the line is in new condition. It come from a surplus store. Reggie

You did really good then! It is nice that PowerPro is helpful. Unfortunately we just have to be careful on where we get line. You ended up with a deal on someone's close-out vs. the fakes. Braid is very durable on the shelf, so that didn't hurt it at all.
If you don't care to use electrical tape, a few yards of mono as backing works just fine as well. I often split up a spool of braid into 100 yard working line fills so it doesn't properly fill the reel spool. I have a 100 yard measure staked on my property I use to snip it, finish the reel fill with mono using a double uni-knot, then strip it back off to turn it around. I end up with the perfect amount of mono backing on a reel with the 100 yard braid piece as the working end. When the braid ends up short, I just replace it with another 100 yard fill tied to that existing mono backing. Only that first fill was a pain to do.

I can fill 3-4 reels with a spool and get twice the life by flipping it

If I were going to counterfeit line or anything else , I would use real lot #'s.

I use mono backing on most of my reels but I cover it with a couple of wraps of Teflon tape and then my working line, never worry about a negative situation when changing line.
