Ive never been to the Nueces white bass run. With a 2 year old, it takes a bit more logistics to prepare. My brother in law and I are planning to take a trip down there in our kayaks next year. I still have hope that I'll find a good day in the next couple of weeks to check it out myself... (though I'd really rather have a buddy with me, from what I hear about the massive number of boats on the river this time of year.)

Wishing I was in my kayak.

Try to hit a week day. It is not that bad during the week days! Side Note: The trip will be well worth it! Once the trees start blooming the run will be over!

Try to hit a week day. It is not that bad during the week days! Side Note: The trip will be well worth it! Once the trees start blooming the run will be over! Me and my fishing partner hit the river yesterday (Wednesday) and there was only myself and one other boat up the river from the airport launch at daybreak. As the day wears on though folks started to show up and as we returned back to the launch at around 1:30 I counted about 15 boats and about a dozen kayakers and there were a couple of boats just getting ready to launch as we were pulling out. White bass fishermen are kind of laid back so if you get there early most folks seem to like to sleep in or get breakfast so as they say the early bird gets the worm (fish). Quote: Side Note: The trip will be well worth it! Once the trees start blooming the run will be over! [/quote] This may be true when it comes to the Nueces, but look north toward the Guadalupe above Canyon lake when the peach trees start to bloom which is the signal I use for the whites running up the river on the Guad.

Jimbo, We were out there Wed. as well. It was family day with my wife and son as my fishing partners. We also brought the little Yorkie for her 1st fishing trip. When we got to the launch at 7:20 am there was a truck parked and one launching. We headed up river to some of my favorite spots and quickly caught a load of whites. We also got into some small crappie with one keeper crappie. I think we passed you at the 2nd. rapids area up river from the ol [censored] hole and double slab pillar ? With all the years you have on the river and mine as well-- there's no telling how many times we have passed each other. This year reminds me of goods runs we've had in the past.
My stringer is getting there!!

Thanks Jim,rodeo lineman, and Riotex for the replies. Jim: You are right on about the spawn times on the upper Guadalupe. I was referring to the Nueces. A friend of my brothers who lives on that part of the river always said to "watch for the tree buddings. The spawn will be about over." Rodeo lineman. I did not make it out there this week. Two friends of mine who did fished yesterday (Thursday) and did very well.

Riotex- I am heading out there tomorrow. 3 weeks ago I launched at the airport ramp and went upriver..would it behoove me to launch at 59 and head upriver, instead? Just curious of your opinion from someone who has fished it for a number of years.
Banker- Thank you for the continuous awesome reports. You are a true fisherman and I love to read your posts.

With all the years you have on the river and mine as well-- there's no telling how many times we have passed each other. This year reminds me of goods runs we've had in the past. That was me you passed Rio, we were those two old codgers in the old light grey Chevy pickup. My old boat is an 83 Sears Gamefisher (light tan) kinda resembles a Boston Whaler with railing on the front, pushed by a 15 Yamaha. We were there a couple of weeks earlier on our first trip of the year and the water was a little higher and we were taking our time hitting a few spots along the way. Neither one of us wanted to get into the water and pull my heavy boat through the shallows so we didn't go much farther than where you saw us as it started to get shallow. We did great with a limit before 1 pm and all big fat females. As banker says it doesn't get any better! Side Note: I had to laugh after I typed "old codgers" because my fishing partner is one year shy of 90, and I'm a year shy of 70, so your looking at over 140 years of experience on that river since we both started fishing it at a young age.
