Fished yesterday below FM 2517. Found scattered fish at first...a couple here and a couple there. Then we hit the Mother Load. Consistently the largest white bass I have ever seen in Texas anywhere. Many fish over 3 pounds and 18 inches. We had so much fun decided to go for the water body record for white bass on the fly...and now have it as a pending record (see fly fishing for pictures). The river was about 6 inches visibility and up a little from the 1 inch rain in Carthage the day before. Its on folks...the largest white bass in Texas. ![](http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg304/lahartley/white%20bass%20sabine%20record%20yellow%20dog_zpsqi2q3grd.jpg)

Some of them made their way to Tawakoni spillway about a month ago I caught a few that were almost 18 inch long that were in the 3 lb range. ![](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/usergals/2016/02/full-95135-99111-20160115_182559.jpg)
Why do I go fishing? To catch a box of fish and/or some quality time under the sun. Thank Heaven I never fail fishing in Texas, catching box fish or plenty of sunburn.

There is a ramp at 2517, at River Ridge, and another at Yellow Dog outside of Logansport.

What kind of boat would be ok to bring out on the Sabine. Is a 18ft blue wave center console too much boat for the river or is a 14ft John boat with a motor on it more suitable.

I run two boats...a 22 ft cc and a 15 ft shallow draft cc. There is absolutely no way I would take the 22 ft to the river. For one thing, that river can drop quickly and places that were once fine can become hazards quickly. Your 14 ft john boat is perfect for the river...and all that is needed.

I agree with Meadowlark. The water dropped about 6 inches yesterday. I would run the boat least likely to hurt my feelings if I tear up something. Seems like I am always hitting something or current knocking me around.

She get good unless next big rain floods it up again.

Any reports on this after the rain. I live in Dallas and have always wanted to do this for the run. I bought a kayak and would love a chance to get out there just basically need to know how long after a good rain to wait and also best place to put a kayak in.
I only fish on days that end in Y!

River came up about 7ft after the rain. I would give it a good week to get back down. It will rise for another day with all the run off. Check the Sabine River Authority site for flow. I personally like it 10 foot or less with under 2000cfs flow. Its running 5600cfs now which is cranking at a good clip. That would be super tough Kayak fishing.
