Almost everyone I know that uses QTE's goes on about this. Suffice it to say there are so many offerings out there that are comparable in mechanics at that price point as well as well below it.
A lot of folks don't like them but I love my Ardent Edges, Pro, Tourney and Elite are all good choices. E-bay is a good source with great deals to be had.

Go daiwa. X2! As for the Quantums you can thank their crappy build quality. After wasting about 5 hours of time on EXO 300 I was servicing for a customer and having issue after issue with it. I finally gave up and sent it back to him no charge. The reel had never been into before. I found the right side spool bearing missing a shield, shield was laying on top of pinion gear. Customer complained of spool "slipping" while setting the hook and fighting a fish. Thought it was a problem with drag washers but after putting in new same problem. Closer inspection of the spool revealed that the spool shaft was just spinning inside the spool. Then I was taking the bottom screw out that holds main shaft in and it just spun, had to get a small screwdiver and push it out from other sides. Threads were completely stripped. Most likely crossthreaded at factory. And the final problem was that after removal the right side plate would not go back on the reel without rubbing the drag stack. I could put it all back together and tighten the drag down almost all the way and the rubbing disappeared and reel was smooth. Anyways he ended up having a long conversation with a Quantum tech after reading them all the issues I had with the reel and he ended up sending it in and its getting a new frame and spool and possibly other parts. Free of charge luckily for him but Im still out the $15 cleaning fee, $10 for drag washers, and the $6 to ship it back to him. I wont touch another Quantum. And this is coming from a guy that breaks down and services a BUNCH of different brands of reels and see's how they are built/put together. And Quantum is by far the cheapest and worst made reel in my opinion. Just my .02 from a guy that works on alot of reels.
