I will be out there tomorrow trying out some new flies I tied. Wife is due any day now but she id letting me make a short trip Probably spend most of my time on the smaller creeks. Anyone else trying with a fly rod that would be kind enough to show me how to catch whites on a fly? Watched some of the videos but never caught a white on the fly.

My wife and I are headed to Irwin bridge tomorrow. She fishes with minnows, I'll be fishing with my fly rod and store bought clousers. If I see you there big shiner, I'll be glad to show you some stuff. Which is not much. I'm self taught But... I've caught a few w/b using my fly rod. I'm sure I can learn a thing or two too.
Years ago, I watched a fly fisherman catch one after another in one spot. He invited me and my buddies to cast our lures, minnows, the kitchen sink in the spot he was catching. He caught 3 to our 1. After that day, I bought a fly rod and taught myself to use it. LOL. I always wanted to learn, so... I just did it. I can catch w/b regularly.
Now, I just need to learn to tie my own flies. I buy my flies from Cabelas. They work OK but I'm sure the home grown ones could be much better. Maybe I see you there. I'll have a Camo shirt on, and a fisher woman in tow.
Tight lines!
Shut up and fish!

There used to be a lady off county rd 430, south of dime box, that sold minnows out of her house. As soon as it turns right, the house was on the left. My dad and I always bought from her. Since my dad was from dime box, he knew just about everybody.

I have no clue what I'm doing wrong when downloading photos from my phone. It looks like it will post a pick, but it doesn't. A small blue looking box appears, that's it. On my PC it has a red X in the box.

Anyone else trying with a fly rod that would be kind enough to show me how to catch whites on a fly? Watched some of the videos but never caught a white on the fly. You are welcome to fish with me anytime. I hope to go this evening around 4, but can't confirm yet. I'll be out Saturday morning for sure. I have had the best success using lighter size 8 bead chain clousers, rather than the ones with lead eyes. You have to be patient and let them sink longer but it allows for a slower presentation and the ability to control the depth. I don't get hung up very often either, except in the trees around me, LOL. You may have to do some roll casting but I've found several locations where I could get down on a sand bar and fish parallel to the creek. I've also found a spot or 2 where the trees are all knocked down and I can cast from the bank. My best advice would be to throw it out, put your rod tip in the water, tighten the line, let it sink, and then retrieve it as slowly as possible to start. It can be painfully slow fishing but if you are in a crappie hole you won't get it back to you before getting bit at least once. Watch you line for any movement and feel the bite though your finger on the line. Strip set and raise the rod. Hope that helps.

Caught a limit today at Irwin Bridge. Took me a little longer then fishytx. Took me about 2hrs before I caught the 1st white. Didn't thingk I was going to catch anything, but once I figured out how they wanted it, it was one fish after another. On the bottom and slow retrieve was the ticket. A bunch of males were caught. I was a good way down also and that walk back to the truck with a full stringer was a haul... Great catch and great photos Nesonca The water is incredibly clear. Great times!!!

Fishing is definitely good and how about that weather? Beautiful day yeaterday to spend in the woods, catching fish makes it even better. J-Moe is exactly right, I saw alot of people leaving with 0 fish again. They all have 3" grubs. Although you can catch em on them, I will put mine away and downsize. I will use 1/32 or 1/16 oz feather jigs (color didn't seem to matter) and will fish holes where I can't see the bottom. Throw it out let it sink and twitch it sloooowly. Like he said I caught almost half (whitebass and crappie) by watching my line twitch after I did, as you couldn't feel the thump. They are there but not to aggressive and just sucking it in. I caught 3 in one hole 2 minutes after a guy just left it. Hope our responses help those who are not having as much success.
