I fished Joe Pool today. Hooked two fish lost both when my line snapped. First fish I never even got turned towards the boat when the line snapped so I didn't get a look at it. The second fish I hooked I actually saw, definitely an over 21" fish, wore her down and had her coming towards the boat until she got just out of reach, turned her head and snap line broke again. Two fish lost within 30 minutes!!! I was trying P-Line CX Premium for the first time. Rod guides are in perfect shape, no nicks or cuts, so I was wondering if anyone else has experienced line breakage with CX Premium?

If it was your first time I'm curious if you wet the line sufficiently before cinching the knot. It's vital with copolymer lines.

Yes sir I wet all my lines, except braid, before cinching the knot tight. I had been using P-Line CXX X-Strong but switched to the CX Premium to try to gain a little better casting distance.

I use CXX and Voltage. . .I didn't like the way the CX Premium felt. I definitely didn't have any breakoff issues like you had, but I didn't like how much coil it would want to hold. Check out the voltage if you want some seriously tough line.

What size line? I've used it since it came out and have had one bad spool of line out of hundreds.

CX Premium is good line although I like CXX better. Make sure your line is straight on the reel spool and not kinked. If it gets a kink on the spool that will weaken the line and you are only using 10# test to begin with. That is pretty light. Try 8# CXX instead and either stretch your line before you go or use line conditioner. 8# CXX should be stronger than 10 Premium.
I would use 15 test if it were me.

I was using CX Premium 10lb. There lies the problem. I can look at 10lb. test and break it. In 50 years of tourn. fishing I have never dropped below 17 lb. test, pitch the heavy stuff with 25# and spinner baits on 20#. I have only broke off a hand full of fish after sawing back and forth with her for 10 mins. or longer trying to get her to float up with in net range. Had lots of fish come unbuttoned but only lost a few battles.

I was using CX Premium 10lb. 10 lb test and you wonder why it broke? I use that on spinning gear with a very loose drag. Most all my baitcasters have 20. Some have 25.

I catch lots of good fish on 8 and 10 test red box Seagar Flourocarbon. Biggest last year was on accident but was a 15lb. plus long nose gar. Drag and patients with light line.
See you on the lake and have a great day!
