That sucks. So it's about $850 for a rebuild, $1400 plus labor for an already-rebuilt transmission, or I guess a lot more than that for a new one. How much is labor to install the rebuilt transmission?
I've changed the fluid every 40k-50k on my 2004 and I'm at 151k with no issues.

I failed two in 120,000 miles. Then went to Castrol synthetic and a big add on cooler. No problems since then. All rebuilders will tell you heat is what cooks'em.

If you cooked 2 of them in 120k you are doing something to make them fail if heat was the cause and not failure of some other component. Excesive shifting, overloading, idling with you foot on the break for extended periods of time are all killers.

The 4L60 tranny is a light truck tranny....I will say that if you get 150000 on one before a rebuild you are lucky. I see them all the time in my shop. if you pull anything much heavier than a decent sized bass boat and you crowd it much you WILL be shortning your trannys life. Also if you have never serviced it and decide to do it and you have 150k on it don't be surprised if it gives up on you not long after....it just happens...don't ask why. However....in 99 when the body style was changed there is a tow haul button on the end of the shifter, any time you are towing that tow haul should be used....it raises the trannys line pressure so the clutches are held together tighter resulting in less slippage...slippage equals heat which is what burns the trannys up. ALso if you put huge tires on the vehicle that works against you...the shop I work at we wont warranty any tranny if it has bigger than stock tires on it.

My '98 had 265k on the original drive train when I traded it in, and would have driven that truck to Alaska if I needed to. Never changed the trans fluid or filter, just made sure it stayed full. Honestly can't remember ever adding any fluid to it. I used the heck out of that truck, loaded it down regularly, and towed with it a lot too.
My current '99 burb has a 4l80 in it, pushing 200k, still shifts fine and has never been serviced that I know of.
I have killed two transmissions in my life, both by replacing the fluid and filter, both died within two months of being serviced.
Driving habits kill more transmissions than design or lack of service. Allowing the converter to run extended periods of time while slipping/unlocked will fry a transmission quicker than anything.
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space!

Had a 700R4, the anemic predecessor with 265k when I sold it in good shape. I took a 7000+ pound tractor and trailer for a 200 mile round trip @ 257k miles shortly before I sold it and it endured a life of use before that pulling boats travel trailers and a flat bed.
I did change my fluid and filter though.
