They are going to need a lot better camera system for them to be effective. And some kind of GPS system to mark a waypoint.

They are going to need a lot better camera system for them to be effective. And some kind of GPS system to mark a waypoint. They already have GPS. Mine will mark the point it takes off from and return and land where it took off. You can also set it up to run a route. It's pretty similar to an iPilot. My camera is shooting 2.7K video and 12 megapixel photos. I think the technology is there to tie one in to a Lowrance or Hummingbird to mark spots. My drone also links to my iPad. I can get an excellent live feed, or spend a little time reviewing video after the flight. All that being said, I have to agree with the "old school" comments. Too much technology can take away from a relaxing day on the water.
The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

Somebodys got their panties in a wad...some people just want to know why you said its Unethical.... That's really all it was. I don't understand how someone can see it as being "unethical". That's a heavy word that I don't throw around frivolously. I just wanted to hear the guys explanation. Clearly I was asking too much.

$500+ plus drones in the Lake should take care or it. Probably about the same threat that underwater cameras amounted to.
I have a DJI. Using it to spot bedding fish would be harder than just going out and finding them.

At one of lakes I fish there is a bank fisherman that uses a drone to carry his bait "way out there" for catfishing. He had it hovering above me a couple of times while I was bass fishing. I just waved.

My first thought about using a drone and it being unethical would be this scenario:
Your in a tournament and your having a tough day, but you see a team whacking them. You launch your drone and fly it over them to see what they are doing, baits they are using, specifc structure they are fishing, etc. Talk about a douche bag move!!!

No worry with using drones to spy on other angler's lures.......Use of drones is already restricted for invasion of certain implied privacy protections. I can fly my drone over anyone's house or boat any time, as air space is public, but I cannot use the drone's camera for much more than navigation......hovering for the purpose of spying on a sunbather by their private backyard pool for example or see what an angler's activities were using a drone's camera could land you a citation. On the other hand, bass or lake structure or the public waters they are in have no such privacy protection.

I have the Phantom 3 professional, still new to it. But got some amazing pics around the banks of ray hubbard. just afraid to venture out further over water, as its my understanding they need a solid non moving surface to maintain a steady stable altitude, and just don't have the balls yet to launch & land it back on a boat from open water...I'm still in beginners mode, i believe regular mode will fly nearly a mile away. I can see putting your Lowrance HDS 19 in Drone mode coming soon.

As JP mentioned the tech side is there and certainly evolving but you have to be a very good pilot. It's simply not practical. One wrong move or low battery issue and you've dumped a grand in the lake in the hopes of seeing a few beds? Launching from a boat isn't easy and there are simply too many variables. Hell it takes us half a day to get great drone shots with a two man flying crew. Waste of time.

I figure some 3.5" BB goose loads will land it quickly. Lol. Some good ol boys down here in south east Texas might not appreciate them man made tweety birds.

I'm saying if you can use it to your advantage why not. You still have to catch them so why does it matter

Don't want them to fly over you to spy on you, just get one of these. http://www.popsci.com/drone-catcher-drone-fires-nets-at-lesser-drones and problem solved. I guess it could be converted to net the fish for you,LOL They're also about to come out with a drone that can go under water. Limited by cables right now because it loses radio signal in water.

Well is it big enough for a sponsor wrap? That's the true question.
