I was raised in East Texas on Neches River I didn't know anything but hunting and fishing. My dad had family hunting lease on the river and thats all we did year around. Us kids were on the three wheeler hunting or in boat fishing or just being kids (mudding or wasting 22 shells).

NOPE! I may lean more to fishing the older I get. I would never stop hunting. The reason being anything we stop supporting the anti's will take away, not going to let them win! I hope you will not either.

I grew up on a farm and hunted all the time when I was younger. I still have the guns but do not hunt any more because I get such a rush out of bass fishing I want to spend any free time I have out on the lake fishing. I enjoy it that much.

I too grew up on a farm, doing a lot of hunting and pond fishing. In my early teens, deer hunting became the thing I looked forward to all year. But after fifteen years on the same lease, the owner died and his son tripled the price of the lease. Strike 1.

About the same time, I started to realize that it did not take a lot of skill to kill something while sitting concealed in a box fifty yards from a feeder. Also started to realize there was very little chance of killing a good deer (trophy) unless you could afford to cough up huge $$$ to hunt managed, aka., pen-raised or high-fenced deer, and at that point it becomes deer killing or deer buying, not deer hunting. Strike 2

And about that time I got back into bass fishing, and the thing I still missed about hunting, ie, the comradarie, could be had in a bass club. Stike 3

Maybe if someone invented shoot and release.

I still love hunting but have not fired a deer rifle in years. I have tried to make it more sporting by bow hunting. I have turned away from just putting meat in the freezer to hunting horns. For the freezer it is hogs and ducks.

As far as selling my guns.... With all the politics I just soon keep what I have.

My fishing equipment may have suffered, (I do not drive a 40K boat) but I still enjoy a good day on the lake with my son in the Old Ranger. Same effect, less dollars per smile.

luckily i have a friend with land to hunt Possum Kingdom Lake area.
dont shoot deer anymore, turkey dove & ducks.
it is all about the camp. for 24 years we all get together opening weekend.
most of my time is spent looking for arrowheads, and fishing the tanks.

I did exactly the opposite, gave up fishing to do more hunting. Moving from Alaska where we fished all summer, ice fished in the winter, N. Texas is just lacking. If I lived on the coast, I would sell all my duckhunting gear and fish non-stop.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I enjoyed reading them. To those of you that have access to either family property or a friends property, you are truly blessed. I'll just keep on fishing.

Its funny you said that. I hunt with a retired Game warden, he always told people who were over the limit,"if you can make that bird fly away I want write you this ticket."

You can't catch a fish on a dry hook.
