 Best crappie lake near Houston?

Hello everyone. I've never caught a crappie in my life and have recently been trying to target them from my kayak around the Houston area with zero success. I was wondering what the closest lake that has a good population of crappie would be. Also looking for a guide to take me out. I tried calling butch terpe on Conroe but he said it doesn't get good up there till around March so I'm looking for other alternatives. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't know about it being the best crappie lake in or near Houston,but check out get the net guide service 936 355 2889.Hope that helps.

Thanks for the suggestion crope1. I tried calling him about two weeks ago with no answer and I emailed him sometime last week too with no response. I'll try to get a hold of him again

Thanks for the suggestions! I've been trying lake Houston in spring creek from my kayak. I don't have a boat so I'm only able to go as far as I can paddle lol

Conroe, Somerviile or Gibbons Creek - those are my spots. I'd hook up with you at Somervilleon a Friday one day.You can email or private PM and we can go. When I get a guide it's usually Granger or Palestine. It's very difficult to get a crappie guide on the Houston lakes. I've been and am trying to find a Somervillecrappie guide.
If you know if one, I'd be happy to go half with you.

Catch a nice low wind day and go to Lake Houston and fish the bridge pilings. They should be loading up.

Yeah I've heard that below the dam is excellent for crappie. I haven't found a guide on lake Houston besides Marty and he hasn't been on them lately. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I'm determined to catch and taste my very first crappie this year!
