Please help me with decision, ocean trident 13 used or a send 12th new looking to invest about a thousand $. I am 50 with major back surgery 2012 bad surgery with not the best results. Tired of man handling 10ft bass raider with all equipment trolling motor 2 graphs nets jackets rooooddddddssssssssss.I can still get around pretty good but limited bending and twisting.I have been down beavers bend since but only once.Feel free to help this old vet.thanks and GOD bless! I have kayak education a lot over the years I do believe I can handle it this will probably be my last small boat I also tube and there is nothing like being close to the water most time will be on tawakoni or fork Holbrook.

The Trident 13 is about 10 lbs lighter and about double the price (new). My guess would be that weight will trump price. Longer is going to be easier to paddle, generally. Used will sometimes have some rigging already installed.
I have studied both boats, and am more impressed with the OK Trident, although I don't own either one.
I like the layout of the Ascend better.

How do you plan to carry it? Truck bed? Trailer? Roof rack?

I paddle and love my santa cruz raptors. You wont find a kayak that can do so well at so many things. It weighs 67 lbs and has a weight cap of 360 lbs. It is as stable as the most stable of kayaks and doesnt make you sacrifice speed. It cost right at $1000 new. I have caught everything from big shark and kingfish to striper and catfish and any other big fish I can find. If you would like a demo by all means pm me and we will work out a time.

I'd only add that if you have a bad back that it is imperative you take a test drive. The reason is that even an inch off here or there can be an issue. It is sort of like auto seats: you can look at two cars that look about the same but one feels good, the other not. Or, mattresses where one is too soft or hard.

I'd also read up on the post about Boonedox Landing Gear where you would do a whole lot less lifting, spend a whole lot less time getting in and out of the water. Not cheap but I'd go "used kayak" plus this to make it fit a budget.

I have a bad back too. I have two 10' kayaks. A WS Tarpon 100 & a Jackson Cruise. Both work great go me fishing the Guadalupe small lakes a streams. I've had both on Lake Buchanan fishing the dam area for Stripers.
Go for a boat in the 50 - 60 lb range with a good seat. By the time you accessorize it will weigh more. The 10' are easier to handle and drag around, a cart is a good investment. Use a truck bed or trailer to haul. Although I can get both loaded on my ladder rack alone. Some of the Sit in side 12' are lighter and easy to handle. The native ultimate or FX are great. One will be my third boat in the fleet. The seats on the Native and Jackson are great and can have a lumbar cushion added. I have one on the Jackson.

I find the kayak to be easy on my back paddling with a shoulder powered stroke. It's as you know the sitting for long periods is hard on the back. I rarely stay out longer the four hours at a time.

The 10"ft sounds like a good idea.I guess I will have to go and see what and sit on to see what Will work. Thanks for the info.
