I dragged my 520c with a power stroke 6.7 and it was a dream...for me I drive my truck to and from work every day and the diesel was a nickel and dime'r from extra filters to 13 quart oil changes not to mention the fuel usually cost more than regular so plan on more cash output for the best tow you will get...I had a few issues and went back to a F250 but in the gas motor and love it...a 3/4 ton suspension is the best for dragging our rigs around in my opine...

This diesel fuel now days does not smoke like the old oily suflur diesel did. The new deisel trucks burn cleaner too. Between the two issues helping we don't smoke up our loads any more. Smoke is unburned fuel blowing out the stack or tail pipe. Altitude, gear, little boy mods and terrian make a huge difference on the milage issue. Most stated milage is BS and so is MPH.

My tugger is a 2014 Ram 2500 4x4 with 35x12.5x20's. I have pulled a Ranger 522 all over Texas and trust me I don't let grass grow under my tires. PLENTY of power but truck likes to run around 60-65 for best fuel mileage and I don't like driving that slow. Pulling boat I average 13-14 and daily driving I average about 16. Drove to Florida and back last summer and got 16.5 round trip.

I have an '07 5.9 liter Cummins and it will puff out a little cloud on a steep grade or heavy acceleration as all the older diesels will but it does not leave a mark on my boat. Is an expensive diesel motor in a 3/4-1 ton heavy duty pickup capable of towing a 12 ton backhoe necessary to tow a 5000lb bass boat? Absolutely not....but if you have it anyway it is nice. None of the new diesels puff any smoke unless they need to go to shop. :-)

I have been driving a RAM Ecodiesel since February. BTW... That truck does get the advertised gas mileage. Just how much GASOLINE does your EcoDIESEL burn? Inquiring minds want to know!

I ask that because I am about to buy a diesel and wanted to know if the boat gets alot of soot on it? No it does not. I have a white boat and have pulled it with my Dodge diesel for 11 years now. That diesel pulls a 20 ft boat like there is nothing back there and it gets better mileage than the gas motors.

What do you think about a diesel pulling your boat? I love it.

I have no issues with power except when u are running 75-85 it doesn't have the low end torque at 5th gear at those speeds. I pull my boat at 70mph. the ride of a half ton is better than a three quarter ton. I've never run nothing but power strokes and duramax's. My fishing buddies that have half ton Chevys and fords can't believe the power when they ride in it. It's a perfect medium of half ton gas and big 3/4 ton diesels. That's my opinion others may have a different opinion. I'm not brand loyal either I go with what's the best deal Boat or truck.
