ANNOUNCEMENT:
Thanks to the combined benefits of social media, word of mouth and some fantastic leg work by the Wood County Sheriff's Department, the two individuals shown in the photos have been apprehended, they have confessed, they have returned the stolen items and they have been booked into jail.
I personally want to thank everyone who helped us get the word out on this. A quick response by everyone is what enabled this search to be resolved in less than 48 hours!

A lot of people, me included, would like to do serious bodily harm to anyone caught stealing from us.
The reality of it is that you better make sure you can justify taking a life or even wounding someone over property. The law may say it is justified, but once you get charged and get in front of a jury of the 12 brightest citizens they can seat then the whole deal can change in an instant.
By the letter of the law it is legal to shoot someone after the sun sets for criminal mischief. But, I would guess you would be charged and most likely found guilty.
If you do not get charged or even found not guilty, then you have the civil liability issues to deal with and that could get ugly as well.
It seems our laws have moved to protect the wrong side some of the time. Then when you look at civil law it's even worse.
If you choose to use deadly force, from what I understand, you better be prepared to justify it and/or defend yours actions. +1. I hate a thief as much as anyone. However, the Penal code states The actor reasonably believes that: (A) the land or property cannot be protected or recovered by any other means; or (B) the use of force other than deadly force to protect or recover the land or property would expose the actor or another to a substantial risk of death or serious bodily injury. In this case. The property could be recovered(due to very good photo's). All of these Billy the Kid and Doc Holliday's really need to think about shooting someone. Just because someone may carry legally, it does not give them to right to play Police officer. I dang sure am not going to shoot someone who just stole from a store. Unless, the perp came at me with a weapon. One needs to read the complete Penal Codes to fully understand, and even then it can get confusing. So, if you shoot someone. You better have a good team of Attorney's on standby.
