I'm signed up for a tuna trip put together over on the fishcoastaltexas.com board. We are short one person to fill the six spots. Here's the text of the post for the trip:

We have 2 spots available to go out on a 32 hour Tuna/Billfish trip 115 miles in the Gulf of Mexico. The trip is scheduled to go out on February 16th with Capt. Mike Jennings (Reel Nut) on a 38' Bertram called Beuno Vida with Cowboy Charters, one of our ABWF advertisers. This will be a trip that will leave you with memories that will last a lifetime. I myself, have always dreamed of taking a tuna trip and am finally getting the chance. It is a trip for 6 anglers and we have 4 spots filled. So far it will be SpotsnDots, BigHead, my son gulfofaustin (it will be his 25th birthday on 2-11-07 and this is his birthday present from his dad), and myself. I have had the pleasure of fishing with all three of these guys offshore on Capt. Elliott's the BigE, but this trip will be monumentous in comparison. We will be going out to a couple of floating rigs called Boomvang & Nansen. The trip will be leaving out of Hide-away on the Gulf in Oyster Creek the morning of 2-16-07 and returning the afternoon of 2-17-07. The estimated cost of the trip will be around $500/man. Let me know if you are interested in going out with us. There will be 2 captains & 1 deckhand on this trip. We will be mainly fishing for tuna, but we will also be trolling for billfish as well. I know $500 isn't cheap, but this trip will be well worth it.

I'm afraid time is running out on GOM tuna fishing, keep hearing about one fish per boat limits coming after this year.
Let me know if you'd like that last spot and I'll pass on the info to the chartermaster. Bert 214-733-7691

Never have heard the rumor of one fish per boat limit. Can't find any info regarding it either. Think someone has been pulling your chain? I can't imagine them limiting an entire boat to one tuna only.

Maybe the 1 fish per boat limit you heard about refers to bluefin tuna? I know that on the East coast, you can only keep 1 'giant' bluefin per trip for the whole boat - maybe theres something like this in the works for the Gulf.

However, I can't imagine that yellowfin or blackfin could have this sort of limit ... on the other hand, with the new limits on red snapper, maybe we could see 1 yft per person soon. Oh, thats a horrid thought.

This is just like Global Warming....the USA will do everything at the common man's expense to avert a possible castrophy, but the rest of the world will continue doing what they want - when they want. Politicians are way too afraid to try and change it either. We just gotta suck it up, guys...

I sure hope it's just bs since I got all that new tuna tackle this year. Sure would hate to get shut down before I even get started good! Anyway, still looking for one for the trip.

There's been a bluefin tuna summit in Japan to discuss poaching and overfishing- it's been in the news this week. But it's dealing mostly with bluefin; not so much on yellowfin.

NMS is talking about putting a one YF limit in place, boat or fisherman is not known at this time.
If that happens I'm selling and moving.

We would see more more folks selling out. Bad enough that the Big E is going. The smaller outfits would soon be closing down as well.
