i have a 2002 15 foot modivied V. i have a 2002 25 H yammy 3 cylinder. it will run in the 25 to 30 mile per hour range. I am pretty sure it is heavier than your boat. but i do not think you could go wrong with a 25 H.

BTW what make of motors are you looking at?
Thanks

Okay,

I am the black sheep I would put the 60hp because I have seen a 60hp on another 14' boat.

But then again I have seen a 225 Yamy on a 15.5 Skeeter.

I'm raising the BS flag on this one!! The weight alone of a 60 hp motor would sink this particular 14 ft boat!

Well my desire after all the comments is to get a 25 hp.I was wondering about the weight of the motor as compared to the boat also. I've always heard mercury outboards were pretty good. What I don't know about is "stick steering"

This is my boat, a 14" flat bottom that I have added a lot of weight to with front and rear decks, foot controlled trolling motor and lots of other goodies. It has a 25 hp Mercury and with me alone in it get a tad over 26 mph by GPS. With both my grown sons and I in it it get a hair over 24. I fish all over Texoma and Ray Roberts in it no problem unless it's whitecapping.

It gets on plane in under 5 seconds.

I do notknwo what stick steering is also. Is it where you do not have a console and you drive the motor by the throttle handle on the motor?

You will have people saying dont get a Merc (i personally do not care for one) i like yammy, rude, and Johnson. also Honda is a good motor. it is just my opinion on the motor. other people have different opinions.

Maybe stick steering is when the handel is extended upward.

Stick ateering is similar to what you would find in an airplane. A joystick that you move right or left to steer the boat. The Craig Cat is one boat that spings to mind that uses a stick setup.

And yes, I wouldn't mind owning one, they look like a blast!

Looks like a real fishin' machine thumb Can you tell me the bottom width of your boat and is your motor a 2 stroke? I'm workin' on gettin' a similar setup. Thanks smile

Hey Yellowcat, happy BD again and is that motor of yours a 2 or 4 stroke? Looked on the Yamaha site and couldn't find a 25 hp 4 stroke. Also is this your boat MV1546 AW DD Alumacraft Jons or is yours a V bottom boat.
