Hey guys,

I really need your help. I'm taking my wife and her family fishing this weekend and I DESPERATELY NEED to have some success when I take them out. They all think I'm insane for displaying my excessive enthusiasm and love for fishing, and they don't understand it. I've taken them out a few times, but I've only been able to catch 1 single blue catfish (Luckily it was a keeper) in the numerous times that I've been out with them. They're losing faith and I'm obligated to show them a good time.

That being said:

-I need someone to help me catch some fresh shad (because that is the BEST bait)
-Can someone suggest GOOD BANK FISHING spots in the DFW area? Preferably in the Fort Worth area, but all locations around DFW will help. (You can PM me if you like)

I've had one of the best fishing experiences of my life with Cpt Larry, and I would definitely do it again, but I'm restricted in the financial department so I'm unable to take everyone out with him. I appreciate it though.

Unfortunately not everyone is going to be enthusiastic and "get" why you/we enjoy fishing even when the bite is not gung Ho -but hopefully it will be an active day-
Yes Shad is the best bait MOST of the time-but I think you ought to hedge your bets on SOME kind of success-
If you get Shad or not take some worms, minnows, a couple of chicken breast, go to a fish market and get a buffalo, maybe use the worms to catch a few perch to use for bait-
I know I'm throwing a lot at you, but I see the importance of you wanting to have the poles bend, and sometimes the catfish bite just isn't where you are at the time-so I'm just trying to increase your chances-
When you go I assume picking up and moving to another spot is less than desirable so if you are not getting bites in a reasonable amount of time(and I know that means different things to different folks) at least
Reel in and rebait then cast out 10-20ft from the last spot-fishing from the bank you can't see the bottom, and you increase your chances of castling closer to a hump or some kind of structure that is holding fish-that's what I look for when in a boat using sonar -you just have to "fish"'around more to increase your chances of finding that "spot".
Is it feasable to take a frisbee with you? Or Dominos or a deck of cards?

The buffalo idea is a good one. I couldn't tell ya where to catch shad this time of year. I would get some buffalo or perch and set up on a south facing bank since the forecast if for an 8mph s wind in dfw this wknd. You'll probably want to fish shallow. I'd tell ya where to go on lavon, but my bank spots are waaay high right now.

The dam is open. They're releasing almost 1100 ccfs right now. Water levels should be back to normal soon.

You should take them below the dam then!

That Cold front last night kicked our ***. How does the weather drop 20' within a few hours!? Ruined our little adventure at the Lewisville Fishing Barge. From surface bobbers to 30 feet down, they still weren't biting. I wanted to go to Lavon Dam but even with the heated barge, the cold was too much for them.

I am no expert but a friend of mine catches tons of good fish on this item. Take an alum.pie pan or something like that and cut 1/2 inch x 2 inch pieces then put on hook. I have not tried it yet but I have seen the quality catfish that he catches.Just a thought for something a little different GOOD LUCK.
