Caught about 10 hybrids, most 17 to 18.5 inches, and a lot of big sandies about 10 am to 1 pm. All on Mepps#4, in 16 to 22 feet. No big schools, just enough bite to keep me from moving too far off Key Ranch humps. Released everything. Also caught what sure looked like a striper, no broken lines, striper body, got a pic, and threw it back. Maybe a big yellow, but wasn't really yellow. Are there a few stripers in the lake?

Thanks for the report. I was out from 1PM to 3:50PM and managed 25 whites and 10 others - mostly keeper yellow bass. That DOES look like a striper, but could be a yellow bass/striper hybrid.

Looks like a yellow X hybrid which are more common in the colder weather. Base on mepps #4 size reference, the fish looks to be about 16" which is a comon size for winter also. Nice report

Looks like a striper to me, but no one has confirmed that there are any stripers in CC so I would assume based on shape that it is a yellow. With all the cross breeding going on with whites/hyb/stripe it is increasingly difficult to tell what it is. My motto is, if there is any doubt, throw it back. I hope the game wardens will be aware of this and give lenience to an honest mistake if you decide to keep them.
Thanks for the report, nice fish. CC is an excellent winter lake.

Yellow/white hybrid. CC produces them and they seem to show up more in fall and winter. I think Rayhub has them as well. Maybe not. Not "torpedo shaped" enough to be a full striper, imho.

Hmmm... Learn something new every day, I'll go with the yellow/hybrid theory, never heard that before, as it had a bit more color than Texoma stripers I caught. Everything I caught swam away that day, anyways, so I'm safe there.

If it is, in fact, a yellow/hybrid, is it legal at 16"?

Hybrid Striped Bass are sterile.
I'd guess a white X yellow hybrid and it would be legal.
