I've been meaning to post this earlier but I kept forgetting.
Over the last weekend in February, my wife and I were fishing Ray Roberts and saw a bald eagle perched in a tree near the Jordan boat ramp. It was an awesome sight and we actually got within 50 yards of the bird before it took flight. I was wondering if anyone else has seen any eagles around there. That eagle must have had a 4ft wing span and we just sat there in awe.

I have never been to ray bob but I have seen many of them at Lake Whitney. They are beautiful. You dont realize just how big they are till you see one in the flesh. Hard to believe that the wild turkey was almost our national bird isnt it?
I fish..... Therefore I am!!!

JTMAN ! Over the years Ive been lucky enough to have seen 8 Bald Eagles at Ray Roberts! Their is a huge Eagles nest In the middle of Flat creek. I saw her snatch a bass out of the water one day ,had no camera.... so mad at my self. It will allways remain in my memories. The limbs in that nest are big around as my arm!! Amazing. Hey Rudy,
They are DEFINATEY an awesome sight to behold in the wild.
I wonder if the Ray Bob eagles are a part of a natural migration or if they were brought and released in that area? I saw some at Sam Rayburn this past year, but I didn't expect Ray Bob. What a wonderful addition!!!
I had my camera, but no film. Could have caught the fish of a lifetime and had no one to back it up but my wife (and she is the type of person to say "What fish, I never saw it". LOL

JT, there is a big bunch that migrate down and winters on Texoma. There is no reason to believe a few wouldn't come on down to Ray Bob. I've counted as many as 19 in one day on Texoma. Most are the smaller ones like you saw, but every now and again you run across one of those 7-8 foot wing span Mama's!! ------------------ Mike www.WhiskerKitty.com

Bald eagles are making a comeback fellas - I was fishing a gig in Springfield, MO - Lake Truman. It was pouring rain so hard that I couldn't hear my partner in the back of the boat. All he could do was point and at the highest spot in the tree line was a nest the size of a small Volkswagon and right next to that nest was Pappa Eagle. A little ray of sunshine in an otherwise lousy day.

_Hey JT: You have been asleep Dude!! There have been Eagles at Ray Roberts since 92 back in Buck Creek before all the Big Trees fell. They used to have a red plastic ribbon marking the prohibited area back there. You had to hug the far North bank to get around it was so large an area!! _Also have seen them at Texoma like Mike C many times!! The State Park at Lake Faifield has an Eagle Spotting Tour Boat ride!! We used to watch them on Lake Fork back when the Tall trees were still standing on Dale Creek Humps out near the Pipe Line too. They would set up there and wait for the Crappie to float over from the main lake point of Little Caney. When the fisherman would release the undersized crappie they would just float because they had come up from 40ft of water and had the bends!! The Eagles knew there was an abundance of free meals floating buy and they just sat in the tall trees waiting for the next one to float by! _Back in the Mid 80's we were fishing at Bob Sandlin when I noticed a Large Shadow pass by on the water and boat. I looked up expecting to see a light plane and it was an Eagle Swooping down for a fish!! It got one about 30ft in front of the boat..a small buck bass and like Rudy...No Camera Dang it!! _I can tell you this about Bass and Eagles! If one's shadow passes over where you're fishing...go somewhere else if it's spring and they're shallow!! That State Park cove was red hot till that Eagle Got His Meal! It shut down like the switch was turned off after that!! _The Big ones look like half a Black Bear sitting up in the trees. Awesome Site!! _Glad You saw one JT!! Cool!! >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Bazztex<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Bazz,
Your comment about Eagles being in the same area made me think of something. Someone once said the same thing about Turkey Buzzards - if they are in the same cove as you go find another cove. In your opinion, Fact or Fairy Tale?

Rudy, If I remember correctly I saw something about boats aren't suppose to get within xxx feet of nesting bald eagles on Ray Bob or you'll suffer a fine. Can anyone verify that? ------------------

My partner and I also saw a blad eagle on Cypress this past weekend. It flew over head then landed in a dead tree. When we came around the corner it flew away. Awesome site! For those interested, it was just to the left as you come out of Tall Tree Marina. We also saw one last winter on Ray Roberts. It swooped down and grabbed a fish that was about 12 inches long..Now that was way cool...

_Hey Jman: I cant say that the Tukey Buzzards are bad news?? I have caught fish with them Ugly Fellers watching on many occasions?? _I can tell you that Bass do know What Eagles overhead mean...Hide Quick!! I have had them shut down several times in the spring because of Eagles flying overhead!! _I do remember a Buddy and I having a Bad Day on the lake and we had just watched Jimmy Houston and one of his tips was watch for shore birds to find fish!!! I told my buddy that all I saw were Buzzards on the banks...I guess that means fishing is...Drum Roll Please...."DEAD"!!!! LMAO _Them Eagles are still King Of The Sky and a pure joy to watch Yall!! Awesome Birds!! >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Bazztex<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Partner and I were on Holbrook and there was a pair just off the point across from the ramp. We watched them for quite a while. Awesome is all I could think of when they took flight.

I saw one on a river trip I took up in arkasas last november...it was an awesome site. I was fumbling for my camera and it took off...it was the first one I have ever seen in the wild. I would love to see one again! ------------------
