The fishing below Denison dam is still very good for fly fishing. They were generating out of the south generator today and that improves the fishing on the Texas side. The insturctions and advise in this post are very good and should be reviewed before you go. I caught two stripers today that were both in the 7-8 lb range and I did catch 3 over 10lbs a few weeks ago. As long and the fishing is this good, there will be plenty of fishermen but there is enough bank space to go around. Will post pic's of todays catch on the next post.

Zip-ur-Fly, answers are no and no. Generation is scheduled for 1 unit, 8am-8pm, so expect a flow of approx 5,100 cfs. Please report how you do and whether or not it was crowded. Good luck!

These are the two fish that I caught yesterday morning. These two fish are in the 2 lb range and were the only two that I caught on the fly. However, there are still lots of big fish during generation times and can be seen chasing shad as they move down stream. Those folks that were using large spinning gear were catching lots of very large fish in the 10-15 lb range. Most of those fish were out of range for fly casters but on occasion there would be some come close enough to the tx side that could be reached with a fly rod. There would be much competition for these close fish. It seems for some reason that most of the 2-4 lb fish have moved down stream. For whatever reason, they were not present as they have been in the past. Mostly the larger fish. I have included some pics from previous days also.

Road that was washed away from the floods is open again. Fished local ponds this past week, then went Saturday to Denison Dam. Was a tough go but did catch and release a couple of Carp as well as hook into two nice Striped Bass!

Went on a whim because the Realtime Release and Generation Schedule showed no water flow and no scheduled generation, respectively. As luck would have it, they started generating soon as I figured out a pattern! Vlog #5 - "Local Ponds and Denison Dam"

fshng84,

Those carp are actually buffalo. Which is probably a better story to tell because buffalo can be a PITA to catch!
Nice video.

Thanks Brendan H! The Buffalo were fun on the fly rod. Did prefer the Stripers though. smile

Had fun again at Denison Dam using the Switch Rod for Striped Bass this past Saturday. Mainly little Striped Bass but did get one Keeper! Video.

Good meeting you yesterday. Glad you got the pattern figured out -- I guess I should have stuck around a while longer.

Good meeting you too Glitchmo!

It was a steady bite for the little ones. Worked several other runs and caught more little ones that morning.

Bigger ones showed when the "bait balls" of Shad were washed downriver. Saw 100s in one "bait ball" go by in the run I was standing near. Soon after Stripers started feeding on them further downriver. Glad to have got some video of the action!
