Trout is right about the milk....I soak everything (except maybe ling) in milk!! I mean everything...especially bay fish unless you eat them same day and never frozen. You would be amazed how it reconstitutes fish, IMO, and removes almost all the fishy taste....my people won't eat fish if they taste like fish...LOL!

Thanks for the tips guys. I know they didnt cut the head or tail off like they should of. They just beat it in the head with a bat and threw it in the cooler. Also there was a comment on here that it wasnt a Black tip or a Spinner? I looked them up couldnt tell the diffence any advice on what it really is?

Its a spinner, the spinners have black tipped anal fins, and blacktips dont. That is really the only real difference in the two, besides the fact the spinner will have a bit more arrowhead shaped snout.Only reason I know is b/c another forum had an ez shark ID

Hey guys,
I actually posted something similar to what I'm about to write in the recipes section. I just tried to cook blacktip for the first time and to be honest, it was awful!! Granted, I didn't really know what I was doing, but I've had luck with many other fish on gut instincts on how to cook them.
Im curious about what exactly makes the fish have that ammonia like smell? It is because of the fight and blood (mentioned earlier) or just the meat in general. Also, this is an ignorant question, but does it have anything to do with saltwater? One of yall said you soak all of your bay fish in milk. Since Ive never soaked any freshwater fish in milk or heard of anyone do it I was just curious if it has anything to do with the salt.
Again, Im not a saltwater pro even though I wish I was so bear with me with the questions!!

I always bring a can of smoked oysters and a 1/2 gallon of buttermilk. That way I get more elbow room. Break em out and I can clear the deck of beginners. That right there is funny as hell!! I don't care who you are... Me and my Dad always place bets before the boarding starts on these offshore trips. We start picking out people and then lay over/under bets on when we think they'll start puking This oyster and buttermilk idea may help me win a bet or two if one of my horses starts looking too strong!!
Since fishing is a sport, I guess that makes us athletes...

Looks and sounds like your two buddy's there are sure bets Next trip, sit in the middle of your two partners and break out some canned oysters. I bet they'll lose their lunch immediately after clearing the jetty breakers!! Oh yea, make sure they sit in the back too. That way, they can watch the deck-hands cutting up sardines and squid - not to mention a large dose of diesel fumes on top of that!! Makes for a delicious hybrid funk in the air!!! Ok. I'll stop. But it's so much fun

Is one part of the boat better than the other? Cause the deck hands told them to sit out back so maybe they had bets going. That would make things even better. But anyways I might try the whole oyster thing sometime.

It's personal preference I think. In the back of the boat there will be less rocking/motion as your motoring around - that's the positive. However, the negative of sitting in the back is the smell of the diesel fumes and the smell of the deck-hands chopping up the squid and getting sardines prepared, etc...If you're a rookie, I would say the back is not the best place to be. Me and most of the hard core fisherman I know prefer sitting in the back. A little more elbow room, talk to the deck hands, closer to the bait, closer to the bathroom and last but not least - closer to the BEER!!
