I'm brand new to the forums and to fishing and general so apologies for being a noob
A buddy of mine got me into fishing down in ATX a while back and ever since, I have been trying to find a sweet spot up in the Dallas where I currently live. From what I have found, Dallas isn't exactly prime pickings for fishing, and I have tried a number of places all over the metroplex, like Bachman lake, Randol Mill Pond, and even the Colleyville Nature center just to name a few and have had really bad luck.
I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that I am a complete scrub and don't have a clue what I am doing, so I am hoping to get some guidance from anyone familiar with the area on good places to try and any recommendations for baits to use this time of the year. Thanks!

this time of year fish are aggressive and shallow for the most part. Throw spinner baits, squarebills, lipless cranks and such. Learn to throw a T-rigged worm or brush hog. When the sun is up, look for rocks and lay downs. They will hold tight to cover as they are in ambush mode.
Cast, Cast, Cast and cast some more. If you catch a fish, chances are there are 2-3 more with it.

Shallow, creeks, mouths of creeks, shorelines with ledges, boulders, brush or debris. Fish parallell to shoreline in lakes, in creek cover as much area as you can. Try small lures, fish are aggressive and feeding on smaller fish, like minnows, ghost minnows, threadfin shad, even dragonflies and grasshoppers. Inline spinners work the best for me, and small, hollow body crappie jigs. I have been absolutely tearing up both bass and crappie for almost a month and a half now. It is red hot. Night fishing, especially late night, is excellent. Today, midmorning was dynamite, between 10:30 and 11:30 AM. I caught 33 bass, albeit small ones, one crappie, 2 bluegills, and an 8 inch gizzard shad. All on Rooster Tails, an inline spinner.
Last night I got 10 crappie, 2 bass, 2 yellow bass, and 2 bluegills, all on hollow body crappie tube jigs, on a 1/32nd. oz. jig head, on ultralight gear.
The fish are there and voraciously feeding, you just gotta stay after em. Don't be afraid to try as many lures as you want, until you find what they will hit. That is part of the fun! Figure them out! It is not rocket science, but it is not extremely easy either, lol. BTW, Bachman lake and Bachman Creek have been red hot for bass, and the winter crappie are FINALLY starting to show up, although still inconsistent.
Just keep at it. All of us were newbies at one time.
Good luck,
Rudy

Thanks for the great advice guys. I love fishing with spinners and roosters so I'm glad to hear those are hitting hard right now. I just need to find a good spot!
Regarding Bachman creek, do you have a recommendation on a good access point? I walked to the creek right right under the Dart track and by a bunch of electrical equipment (at the intersection of Denton Drive and Shorecrest Drive), and I am not going to lie...it felt REALLY sketchy - so I ended up turning around. Is it safe down there? Or is there a better access point that I am missing?
Thanks again!

The creek UPSTREAM from the lake! Start at Lemmon Avenue bridge and fish your way upstream (away from lake), bass of all sizes are THICK up there! Try rooster tails. Color doesn't matter, but size varies day to day. Yesterday they wanted 1/8th oz. Two days ago they wanted 1/16th. Last week It was 1/6th.

Park behind the inwood lawn and garden store, or in the walgreens parking lot. Both are safe. Right now bass are everywhere in creek, water is VERY clear, and with polarized glasses you can see them very easily.

What part of Dallas do you live in , I love creek fishing and I can tell you all the local ones are hopping , having some problems finding some big ones but tons of 13 thru 16 inchers are out there.

I totally agree! Took everyone's advice on here and tried a couple roosters on the recommended creek and caught 3 lil bass in a little over an hour! None of them were monsters or anything, but I am so glad I actually caught something this time!
Thank again for all of the great tips

I was there today and couldn't cast without catching from about 10 to 11am. I was the only one using a Texas rigged worm and the only one catching.
