I would get me a duck if I was you.

Interesting article on Hubert Greene in an old BassMaster..
It seemed as though Hubert had a pet Mallard Duck that he took fishing with him. The duck could see the bass in the water that no one else could and the duck would bobbing it's head up and down on the bow of the boat until Hubert caught the bass. It won him quite a bit of money in BASS; but other competitors wanted to do major harm to the duck. Jealousy to the point of wanting to kill someone's pet.

My old dog died. He loved the boat and was a mutt. I figured I'd get another rescue mutt....what dog doesn't love water?

Well, apparently mine. Shakes and whines the whole time out. I love her, but she's a lousy fishing companion!

Thanks for all the tips and ideas. I recently had to put down my little buddy due to a tumor on his head. I'm wanting to get 1 this time that I can take fishing with me, but I don't want it to be a pain for either of us either..

I'm afraid to take a dog in the boat. Afraid they'd step on one of the rods and get atreble hook embedded in a paw

I wish I could take my Weim with me, they're just too high strung to be good boat dogs.

Bobby, that definetly has crossed my mind... I've seen several people who have their dog or dogs with them fishing and it looks cool.. With the way things are going these days I may get a well trained German Shepherd or Doberman that can attack anyone who wants to screw with me at the ramp or wherever...

Years ago a dog showed up at my house in the country and it was a cross between a heeler and a doberman .. Had short hair and exact body and build of a doberman with the colors or the heeler and a silver eye and a brown eye.. He was a sweet looking dog and ended up being a great dog!!!!

I am a Lab guy. I had a fabulous yellow male that absolutely LOVED a RIDE - boat, truck, didn't matter. BUT, in the boat I tied him to the back seat post for his safety and mine. Too much stuff in the boat to get in trouble in - so I cleared the back (consoles back) so he had no trouble to get in. He'd be on the back deck when fishing (barking most of the time, LOL) and would lay down next to me when we'd run. Loved to have him with me. He lived 12-1/2 years, and I miss him.
Now, I have another yellow male - 6-1/2 months old - loves the truck ride, but will be going to Toledo Bend Thanksgiving week - he's going too - same set up -tied to back seat post and /or the "Oh $hit" handle passenger side.

Wish me luck, LOL

I have a heeler/border collie mix she does well on the boat when she isn't trying to chase my lure as I cast it.

My dog is a mix , Jack Russell / Mini Poodle , best dog I have ever had , loves to go fishing , gets excited when I get excited , but cannot stand geese , I have to be careful with her when they come around , other than that she is great .

Remy is all about hanging out on the boat and drinking some beer but when I fish it's typically all day with no break to speak of so he gets hot and always wants to get in. I think Goldens are the best for their temperament but Texas summers are pretty brutal on them with their long hair.
