Take a photo. And call the Game-Warden. Also; how do you know its actually being used.
Unless you touch it. Which is trespassing.

Hummmm?....Big catfish on the line, hooks straightened out, and bait gone?

Can you give a GPS coordinance on that spot?

Just one more cast!

Unmarked/abandoned trotlines get cut everytime I find one. Follow the rules and I stay away.

So if your line gets wrapped around my prop and causes a problem can I call in on the tag ? What if someone somehow gets a foot caught on your line are you responisable ? I would never put out a trotline.

I have been advised by a game warden that "abandoned" trot lines or trot lines not legally tagged are considered litter/trash and can be removed just like pickin up trash from a bank. Just keep your game warden on speed dial and ask them when you run across these trot lines. They will either tell you to give them the location or send them a pic and give you permission to remove. Now if I come across a trot line that is sittin out of the water and has become a safety issue for boaters, you can bet the farm I am going to remove it. Not cut it but remove it! frown

Any trot line that the main lines are algae covered and the hooks rusted is IMHO abandoned and is subject to removal. I don't cut trot lines for the heck of it and I don't run other folks trot lines. But if they are out of the water and impeding my travel by boat, they are gonna get removed. Fish or no fish attached. They have become a boating hazard and obviously are not being used.

There is nothing wrong with trotlines and jugging. Im a tournament bass fisherman AND i enjoy setting out a trotline or some jugs every now and then. BUT DO IT LEGALLY and take them out when your done. I will cut/remove any line i come across that is not set out properly.

Exactly, and oh by the way, every so often I go through my contacts list on my phone and find the two game wardens in Broaddus numbers, just to make sure I have not accidentally blown them off.

Several years ago I was on Tawakoni and there must have been 50 or more jug lines between the State Park and Holiday Marina. Sure was a bunch of them. Me and a buddy were fishing and this fish n ski type boat comes along and they retrieve one of the jug lines. An older gentleman in one of those flat bottom center console type boats comes racing up to the fish n ski boat and confronts them on picking up his jug lines.

Fish n boat guys said they were just making sure the jug lines were properly marked or tagged. The flat bottom boat guy asked them if they were Game Wardens, to which they replied no. Flat bottom boat guy then ties up to the front cleat on their boat and tells them he appreciates their concern, and he wants to make sure they are fishing legally. Wants to see their fishing licenses and life jackets for each person in the boat.

Lots a calling each other names and threats and so forth, but in the end, they showed their fishing licenses and life jackets and everyone went their own way.

Playing Game Warden can get you in trouble. Really should just call the Game Warden versus taking matters into your own hands. No one on this forum would like someone messing with their boats or fishing gear, so you should not be messing with someone else's.

Every now and then I get caught in a trotline or a jug line while drifting and I never mess with it. Never!

And that is the lawful and intelligent thing to do.

Bottom line is if your legal you can speak your mind , illegal I could care less what happens to your fish and or gear. Only time I ever check is when I am hung up on and there is no markers, it's then getting cut .safety trumps fishing.
