HI,i am coming to Dallas on a trip,my questions are where would be the best places to fish for carp, preferably doubles to twenties,I won't be able to travel too far,we will be staying at the Omni hotel on LBJ freeway, the other question is do I need to buy a license? I read that if fishing in a state park a license isn't required,Is this true?I live in Utah,so non resident, can anyone help with advice ,Thanks

Pay $5 dollars at the Oasis Marina for Joe Pool Lake and you can catch Carp all day long as long as you can find a spot. It's always heavily crowded though because the only location the carp congregate is under the bridge you walk over. You also need a fishing license.
The Cedar Hill State Park on the other hand doesn't require you to have a license. There will hardly be any crowding as there is enough shore for everyone! I have never seen a carp either but I am also not a carp fisherman. It is $7 per person and an extra $5 dollars to stay at night. It is $70 dollars for the State Park pass and it will work for a year at any State Park in Texas. The pass covers an entire car instead of per person.
Oasis Marina in Grand Prairie has carp that are hand fed. You pay $5-6 dollars for "Indoor Fishing" which will give you access to fish their deck. The problem is the area where the carp are is always loaded with people and they usually stay for a while. It's first come first serve. I had someone crossing my lines consistently. It requires a fishing license.
Cedar Hill State Park has a wide shore line but half of it is closed due to flood damage. I have never seen a carp caught there or have caught one myself but it doesn't mean there aren't any. It is $7 per person for the day or $5 for the night or $12 for all day and all night. You don't require a fishing license. You are free to walk the shore lines. The bass are legal 14" and under here.

I have caught a lot of carp at the state park. Most were under 10 pounds. No buffalo at the park, but a few at the lynn creek marina (Oasis).

The parts of Cedar Hill State Park that have the carp are closed. They have not opened them since the may flooding. They are still cleaning up brush and mud.

The Rock has some monsters, seen them fishing for bass and gills.. I don't target them (wanting to learn) Carp, Buffs and Koi get really big there.
Don't worry about the mule, just load the cart

You need a license if fishing cedar hill state park. The no license only applies if fishing a body of water completely in a state park.

Dubee that is incorrect. I talked to a game warden at the office and they told me a license isn't required. I also called and spoke to someone to ask them and they told me the same. The website even states it. Here is their number if you want to ask them yourself: (972) 291-3900 This is the website: Cedar Hill State Park

No special license needed for White Rock. You will need an out of state fishing license. With that you will be good all over the state. 3 or more rods are allowed on most Texas waters, including White Rock. If you get a chance to fish with Jesse, you will be in good hands.
