Did you guys not see what Kieth Combs did on Fork last year? The fishing pressure and cover erosion is the main problem. The good cover that the average fisherman fish gets pounded. Funny thing about it is over half the pros that fished the Toyota were fishing the TPWL reefs. I guess I'm just not understanding how they have hurt it overall. Toledo Bend has been good because of the Hydrilla plus the stocking program but once(or now that) the infinite amount of grass is gone and they resort to other less efficient cover they will get tougher to catch because the efficient cover in shallow water will get pounded to death. Deeper obvious structure & cover will also get hit hard. You could blame Tackle Warehouse the same way as TPWL. Tackle Warehouse has made it so much cheaper for everyone to fish that the fish are getting way more pressure lol

Lake fluctuations and abundance of cover for bass, perch and shad spawn are what makes typical lakes thrive. Rayburn and Toledo are going through this and falcon as well.

finally, 2 post that actually make sense
Fork fish are there if you know where to go find them. The Toyota guys proved that with 100lb + tournament sacks
Rayburn--Toledo--Falcon are producing big sacks of fish and really good days of "NORMAL" fishing.

How on earth would TPWD be able to explain it if they started stocking Toledo Bend and Rayburn like they have Fork and nothing changed, and they started stocking Fork like they have been TB and Rayburn and it went in the dumps?

I get what you're saying. But what they're doing is working and Fork is their crown jewel.

(Okay, dice game)

Replicating Forks all over TX is not that easy. There have only been 4 new lakes in TX over 1,000 acres impounded in the last 25 years. Of those, 2 (Cooper and Alan Henry) did extremely well at some point. TP&W has a formula that works, there just aren't many new lakes being built. I'm interested in what their plans are for the Lower Bois d'Arc Creek Reservoir, which should begin construction soon...

They have a wealth of info about the new lake! Can get topo maps and aerial shots of the current layout. I guess they will be building a bridge for the road that crosses it? Also will they cut all the timber or leave it?? This is the site for anyone wanting the maps! Should be filled by 2022!! :-)

I was referring more to fisheries mgmt. If TP&W were going to stock ponds in the new lake's footprint (like they did at Fork) now would be the time...

Now might be a little early to begin stocking brood ponds. One of the things folks fail to realize is how fertile the farmland and red dirt that surrounds Fork is. Cooper had brood ponds stocked pre-fill. So did Ray Roberts. And both had most of the timber left intact. Nothing has eclipsed Fork in the water fertility department, yet. Maybe Bois d'arc will. And that's the reason TPWD has to stock so many pure Florida fingerlings each year is to replace some of the unders killed by the dinkmaster tournaments. bolt

Not really, it's to keep the % of florida genes and alleles as high as possible.

I favor Fork over all the rest of the lakes in Texas also.

So I read all these reasons as to why Fork (and other lakes) is declining. Droughts, rotting timber, pressure, etc. How is it California keeps pumping out bigguns'?
