Revo MGXTREME Reel ,is this the best or overrated, at 499.00
I now use a chronarch 100mg which is no longer made, is the revo that much better.

I have that chronarch 100 that you're mentioning, 10 ball bearings and smooth as silk. It was low profile before every other reel manufacturer jumped on the band wagon. I've had it since early 90's and I seem to remember paying $195 for it. One revo or 2 of those chronarch bantem 100's? I'll take the 2 shimanos everytime. With the choices we have in reels today it would be really tough to get me to drop $500 on a single baitcasting reel. But if thats what you want by all means go for it. Its only money. Revos are great reels but not worth that price. I wonder how much more it cost Abu Garcia to produce the MGXtreme than it does the walmart grade black maxes?

Just lighter is the only difference from the premier, which is cheaper and as good.

I really like my MGX reels. I don't have any MGXtreme, but I had 3 MGX's. I can't bring myself to buy an extreme. I would buy another MGX if I had the money though.

I would check out the Shimano Metanium or the Aldabaran, srp $418.

These reel companies are genius they up the price to see how much they can get people to pay and they do. within 5-7 yrs if not sooner there will be reels in the $1000-$1200 range and people will pay that. just like any other product, IE Boats and vehicles guess this is just the cycle of death.

The MGX is the most over-priced, over-rated reel I own. So...?

i have an MGX and MGXtreme. They are great reels. Worth $500? not to me, but i didn't pay anywhere near retail for either.

I found the MGX dirt cheap (relative to its MSRP) online, think i paid around $225 for it. The only difference between the MGX and the Xtreme is a little bit of weight and i mean a very little bit. So if were going to buy another one i would shop around and get a deal on the MGX, i just can't make sense of all the extra $ for a slight bit of weight.

I have curado's, lews, a chronarch and a few bps reels and they are all great. I think the lews tournament pro might be the best reel I own, but that being said I found a abu black max (retail 59.99) on clearance for 19.99 6 months ago, drag seemed strong so I put it on my jig/big worm rod and I've caught 5 bass over 8 on it in the last few months. Very good reel for the money. No way I'm paying over 200 for any reel.

$500. Lol. So ridiculous. And I'm all about quality over quantity. But there is no way in hell that reel can cast farther than my supertuned reels and it doesn't have any stronger drag then mine. And most of my reels, supertuned and all, have less than $200 in them. Most are around $140-150.

Paying this much for a reel is just stupid. You can get the same quality and performance for much less.

Curado is about as far as I go in price. But I'll tell you what, I fished for Red's down near Galveston with a guy that had Shimano Caenan's on all his rods. I was impressed. For $80 the Caenan is a nice reel too.

The Internet is your friend. You can get these brand new for no tax and WAY LESS $$$. Unlike Gieco: "20 minutes can save you WAY MORE than 20 percent"!
