Nice job on the popper.

It looks like you tied this one hook point up. Just a quick word of caution, when using a hook up style for a popper, the design of the rear portion of the body is important. If the body is too thick, it can block the gape of the hook making it harder to hook a fish. That's why many of us just tie them hook down to avoid this issue.

Try 'em both ways and see which works better for you. Just for curiosity, have you dropped it in a bowl of water to see which way it floats? I haven't ever seen a popper tied that way. I just always tied what I saw in the stores, which was hook down.
I bought some 1/4" cork stoppers a while back and tied up a few size 10 poppers. Haven't had a chance to try them yet.

Cool thanks i have paid attention and i used a smaller cork stopper so i wouldnt cover the hook. I may try hook down next time. But she does float properly pushed down a couple times and dropped in.

Im goin to tail waters today..

Ok, Ok. I'll admit it doesn't look that great. Everything was put together from scraps. The spinner is a pie pan cut to shape. Wire is colored copper wire, various glass beads, worm weight painted with fingernail polish and a red drinking straw. Treble hook with Mylar flash. I've been wanting to try to make an inline spinner for awhile, but never got around to buying the right parts. I just couldn't wait any longer and decided to Southern Engineer one.

Looks like a white bass catching machine. It wouldn't be a recognized fly though. No treble hooks allowed on recognized fly patterns.

The flies on the left are Big Dale's Psychedelic Spiders - Which is basically the fly shown above...

This picture is of some of Big Dale's (a.k.a. Brimbum) flies that he gave to George Glazer. An were originally shown on this forum on 10-17-09:

We lost a lot when both of these guys passed...

You're right Kyle, this is a variation of Dale's Psychedelic Spider pattern. I had to make a few changes due to the longer shank on the safety pin and the tail was added to hide more of the pin, but it is the same pattern. These were even tied with foam that Dale gave me.

He used to tie those spiders by the hundreds (probably thousands) and would give them to area casting instructors to give away to our casting students. I still give them away in my classes, but I've had to learn how to tie them myself.

We definitely lost a couple of good friends with Dale and George. I learned a lot from both of them.
