I'm running a 101 motor guide 36 volt system. The motor works great. I have two extra battery cables in the back of the boat that run to the front of the boat where the trolling motor is hooked up. There is a switch that says "Charge 2-12v" on the top and "12/24 Run on the bottom. I assume this means I can run on 24v or 36v to conserve power. My question is how do I hook up to that switch in the front of the boat to make this happen?





Do I run wires from the 36v to the bottom of the switch to the TM female plug in? And then run wires from the 24v system to the top post of the switch and to the other side of the TM Female plug in? Seems to me I would need two different switches.

I can't tell by the back of the trolling motor plug but it looks like the female has already been changed out.

If you have a multimeter check just to make sure that none of the 4 leads is jumpered to another one of the other 4. If they are independent I would the positive to two of the posts and the negative to the other two. Then you have twice the surface area on the plug. They do have a chance of getting hot so the more contact area you use the better.

You can't use 24 volts anyway. The charge switch looks to have already been bypassed, disconnected.

The system is simple. Two wires to the plug.

In the back its just like a flashlight. Negative Batt1 goes to trolling motor negative. Pos Batt1 jumpers to Neg Batt2. Pos Batt2 jumper to Neg batt3. Pos Batt3 goes to the trolling motor positive. Make sure you use a circuit protector of some type. Forty or fifty amp inline works.

If the boat still has the wires as original, it probably has two sets of wires in order to have access to 12 and 24 volts. Its really a bad way of doing it but it was popular back in the 80's.

You only need 2 wires so if you want to take advantage of all 4 just pair them up so you have 2 going forward.

Oh ok, the boat is an 84 Skeeter and it does have the original cables, four total. What I did was just find two cables that paired up and ran my 36v through those cables up to the TM plug.

So the other set are not needed then and can be left alone. As far as that switch I'm guessing that is no longer needed and just leave it in to plug up the hole?
