I just got a solo reel for a jiggin pole I am building with a fly reel seat. When I looked at the reel, looks as though it reels with your left hand or backwards with your right. Does anyone know if you can switch it?

Never used one but it says converts from left to right. Maybe the knob unscrews and moves from side to side...

Well, ruined the first one. Bearing sure wasn't just a tap to get out. Pulled it out and 6 tiny bearings went all over my bench. Put them back in, but it didn't want to go back in the other way, so I forced it. The bearing in the video was a metal bearing, mine was a cheezey little plastic ring sleeve. Well, I crushed it. Why would Academy advertise these as a right hand reel, then out of the box they are set up for left hand retrieve, and an engineer can't even figure out how to convert?

They had some design failures with this reel. One of the main ones is the change you tried. Lews has been real good to make things right. I know how frustating it can be with new stuff that doesn't work, but with new designs it happens. Call Lews at 1-877-470-5397 and I can promise they'll do you right.
