I think Lowrance hit a home run with the entire Gen 2 and Gen 3 touch/insight series.
I made the switch back to Lowrance from Humminbird and will stick with them this time.

what is the best unit for finding off-shore underwater brushpiles ? which one can an "old man" look at & understand the best ? Lowrance touch screen 12 with the screen split 3 ways. Down image, side image, and sonar (split with 3x zoom). That will give you a ton of detail. When you are right on the brush pile you can then change to a 2 way with sonar (split with 3x zoom) and down image. You won't need side image as much if you are right over it but it helps when you are locating the brush pile.

See you on the lake and have a great day!

Just did exactly that.... And went with three Humminbird's. They are fast, reliable, easy to see, and just as hard to setup properly as every other make and model. Lol.

HDS12. It's the best for a reason. Love mine.

I chose humminbird because I liked the option of using lakemaster and I have the Terrova. The touch screen on the Lowrance seem like a nice feature. The humminbird came with everything that I needed and I have been completely satisfied with my choice. With the new cheaper humminbirds, I don't think that I'd change brands anytime soon

I run a HDS 12 Will never be without it.. Have learned it. Fast and easy. Had a Lawrence rep offer to ride in my boat for set up help at the Legends tournament. Have called Lawrence several times and they have always been great.

I own Birds, but if I had the cash I would be running a 16 inch Garmin, the side and down view images on them are unreal!

I am thinking about fishing Athens next Saturday (24th) if you want to see the Garmin on the water, I could meet you out there. I am not any rep or anything like that just a guy that was doing what you are and chose Garmin. I chose it because SV, DV, and maps were included in the price. No extra boxes or cables or any of that stuff that I think you have to buy with the others. I did upgrade the map tonight which was an extra $200 but it worked fine without it, I just wanted the extra detail for Roberts which is my home lake.
See you on the lake and have a great day!

Garmin 93SV for simplicity Garmin 8040xs (8inch screen) Garmin 1040xs (10inch screen)
All have SV (sidevu) DV (downvu) 2D sonar
The 800 and 1000 series have a few more features and the lake vu with Mariners Eye view and fish eye view are great.
The 800 and 1000 series is also compatible with the Panoptik which is real cool (and expensive) you can see a crank bait on it.
