Planning of driving up north a little bit due to the red tide in SPI. Need water clarity report and red tide presence in the area and also what is biting. Called a couple of bait shops and was told there is no more red tide and they are getting reports of Spanish mackerel, king mackerel and big red drums. I prefer fishing piers and jetties only.

Got to Port A south jetty monday afternoon and there were lots of bait on the beach but no spanish macks. So i started walking to the end of the jetty where they caught 3 bull reds but no kings nor spanish. Then i started walking back and noticed lots of bait avoiding the green buoy midway of the jetty funneling them close to the rocks, the water clarity was dark green/gray so i used a golden spoon hoping to catch a feeding spanish mack or two. On my third throw i got a bite and reel started peeling off, my first thought was it could be a nice red drum since it is closer at channel and close to the parking area but then the run did not stop. Was afraid the fish might turn to the buoy and cut me off so i tightened my drag and horsed the fish in. Was surprised to see a king mack at the end of the line, and it swallowed whole the gold spoon. Early morning, went to the end of the jetty and was able to get another king that bit on a silver spoon. It was my first time fishing port aransas south jetty and those folks at the end knew everyone there and are looking for each other. Most kings caught were on silver spoons and only a few on floating/diving plugs.

am back in the border now waiting for the red tide to clear up in SPI. Most big reds were caught with cut mullet on a sinker/deep. Floaters with live mullet were not getting any. My dad caught a couple of ratreds on floater with live shrimp. More trout are aplenty supposedly on the north jetty.
