I finally got a day off this beautiful Sunday and headed east on Hwy 175 from Kaufman, TX and was solo this morning and was having to make a decision to what lake to fish. I have had great success with numbers and size in the past weeks with all the lakes with in its exits from Purtis Creek to Mill Creek, and CC. I just kept driving past all until I entered the boundaries of a spectacular piece of water. "ATHENS". I had no way points to any fishing structure or areas, so the search began. I cruised the mouths and entries to the few coves that Athens has and Jack Pot. The fish were suspended from 20' to 5' just off of a brush pile and the were hungry. Boated at least 2 limits of keepers (All catch and release) with a few magnums mixed in with a collarless 1/32" jig head and any color of Bobby Garland skirts. I caught them at all depths and wondered if the schooling bass and boy O' boy were they schooling had them rounded up. I had a pretty good day.

Good job...it's takes a pro to boat a double limit solo!!! 
Katchin krappie...doin surgeries(filleting)...and givin hott grease baths until krunchy and golden brown is what it's all about!!!

Great job!  I got a quick look at that lake when I meet a guy at the ramp that bought my old charger while I was visiting the Fishery. Great looking lake - too many lakes so close

Everyone who has ever been there Knows its beauty lies both above and below the water. It's the only lake that I know of that still has its aquatic vegetation from all types of grasses and its generally clear water 95% of the time. Above the water are some well manicured homesteads (just Saying). I think of it as the laid back lazy mans lake that can be fished with all types of wind MPH.

Athens is known for one of the best bass lakes but crappie fishing on Athens is a hidden gem... Few years back, bass were prespawn and tough to catch so the pops and I decided to fish under the bridge for crappie. We caught over 30 crappie and one weighed 2 3/4 almost 3 pounds. There are some big ole crappie in that lake
