I use Power Pro (I think). I don't remember why I chose it, but I certainly like it.

I use Power Pro and never had any reason to try something else. The braid is still good on the first reel I put it on and that was over a year ago, although the color is white instead of green now on that reel.

are you using this on all your rods, or just certain tecniques? Any concern about the white being noticed by the fish, or are you using mono/Floro leders?

Pitchinfool, what you will likely discover this winter if you do a lot of winter fishing (maybe not down in San Antonio since it doesn't get as cold)is that when the braid get's light colored as you describe, it looses it's water resistance, and you will have reels begin to ice up on you. This is when I know to change mine out. Winter time coming on, light color equals....new braid. This is why I say a spool of braid is typically good for a year and a half. Guess it depends on when you spool it. I been using both PowerPro and SpiderWire for a dozen years and likely will never change to anything else. But, never.....Let me repeat....Never use "fussion" spectra lines....It is not braided, and it really sucks.

ChadK, I am using it on all my rods right now. I am thinking of trying momo on one of them for crankbaits. I carry a black marker and color about the fist 6-10 feet of the braid when it turns light.
MikeC, I haven't had to fish in weather that harsh (YET)! I will make sure and switch out if and when the time comes. Thanks for the tip.

I use McCoys braid. I know that Power Pro must be great because so many people are using it but I had trouble with braids in the past, not Power Pro, and then a friend gave me some McCoys. From the start I have really liked it. It just felt so much smoother going through the eyes of my rod and was so much easier to handle so I haven't had any urge to try anything else since I found a line that worked so well for me. I change it once a year and keep the old for projects like hanging decorations at a wedding and for my girlfriends climbing plants and vines along fence lines etc.

Chad, I use power pro for a lot of my spinning gear applications. I particularly like the 15lb test (4 lb diameter) with small crankbaits like the small (1/5 ounce) fat A from bomber. A real "killer" on Pool! Another application is a "mojo" rig w/ spinning gear.
I've tried it a few times on my b/c equipment and didn't like it- -It was so sensitive, I was setting the hook too soon and too hard, I think, because I missed a lot of fish with it. Bad w/ a backlash too! With all the folks that are using it succesfully tho, I might just give it another crack on my b/c's. Should be dynamite on a jig rod in the thick hydrilla! Maybe I didn't test it long enough to feel comfortable with it.

I got the opposite of Wayne - braid on the baitcasters, mono on the spinning equip. because, when braid gets tangled, I have a harder time untangling it and I tend to get tangles on the spinning reel. Kind of ironic since braid tolerates line twist a lot better than mono. I'm talking tangles around the rod tip, or on another rod, or a lure, or some other object in the truck or boat. I might switch one or two over to braid anyway. It's most definately way more sensitive. and lasts longer. it's practically indestructible.
I picked powerpro from all the recommendations on TFF & never had a reason to try a different one.

Hey Wayne! Havent see you out there lately. I hope all is well! Good to hear from ya and thanks to all you others for your input. I went out and bought a spool of PowerPro today at lunch. I also hear the McCoys is really good stuff, but not as available and a little more expensive. I'll try a little of this and see how it goes.

I like to use berkley fireline only on my spinning reels tho , I think if you spool braided line on a baitcaster u need to use some type of backing maybe a couple of yards of mono I put some braided line on one of my baitcasters and the drag would not work right the line just kept slipping, maybe I did something wrong not to sure but i took it off I have caught two of my largest bass on 14# fireline oh ya I MAY BE WRONG BUT ONLY USE A POLAMAR KNOT WHEN USING BRAIDED LINE when i would use a regular knot the line would slip out of the eye of the hook not good .

i think a mono backing on reels with braid is pretty much a given.

I use 100% Power Pro on all of my reels with no mono backing. It isn't necessary to complicate things.

interesting steven. All your rods hu? Like it that much on everything you throw. Cranks, plactics, topwater?
Speaking of topwater, It was Captain Ron Gardner (The Smallmouth King) who first turned me on to braid when Fireline first came out. He was sponsered by Berkley and spooled me up on a trip one day. we were primarally fishing the Spook for smallies that day. Believe it or not I had the only smallie that day.
My Diawia reels have a slot to tie into to keep the line from spinning, but i remember the first time I bought my own spool, put it on a spinning reel, went on a guided trip on Fork, and found out on the first cast why i should have used mono backing. reel just spun like there was nothing on it. One rod no use the rest of the day.
