Well me and my buddies went on the 12 hour scatt catt trip this Saturday and I had a blast. The other 3 guys I went with all got sea-sick so they didnt have as good as time as I did:) On to fishing. Well we went 36 miles out until we could finnaly fish. We were bottom fishing with the electric reels and at first didnt like it but I soon got to like it. About 10 minutes into the trip someone pulled up a King Macheral"sorry butchered that I know" the first one I have ever seen pretty cool fish. Well we went down the line of fisherman everyone getting to pull in 2 Kings, damn what a fight those things are Now it is about 3:30 in the morning and only 1 other guy out of us four are still fishing. I drop my line with squid on the hook. It hits the bottom and I get a little bite. Well I set the hook and soon found out it was not a "little" bite:) Well I weigh about 140 Im a small guy and im putting most of my wait on the rode and this damn thing is still pulling me around pretty bad. We get it up and soon found out that I have caught my first black tip shark. It ended up weighing 81 pounds and damn was I freaking out. I will post some pictures of it when i get back at home. We managed to all get are limits in Kings and some type of snapper cant think of it off hand. Well i have to say im pleased with the scatt catt but things could be better. I noticed that the deck hands and [censored] reeled in about 75-80% of the kings not even offering anyone else the opportunity to feel the fight. Other than that they where alright guys to fish with.. I think if your running a deep-sea fishing trip you would want to let everyone feel the Kings and big fish not just the deck hands and whoever. But anyways I would suggest the scatt catt to a first time fisherman wanting to experience it. Pics soon to follow PICTURES!!!!!!!!!!!!! Alright here are the pictures from our trip on the Scatt Cat. Here is me with the Blacktip shark that I caught:0 The next picture is the boats catch.. Me and one other buddy of mine caught 48 Vermilin Snapper so look at the Snappers and take away 48 and you notice that most of the boat was sick:) Alright this picture is the 3 buddies that went along with me when they are sea sick:( The guy in the blue shirt did start to feel better and help me catch the other two guys limits in fish. And finnaly is the best picture of all..The deep blue. For the first time out all I can say is I cant wait to get back out there:)

Glad our advice paid off for you. Would love to see the pics. That is funny that they reeled in the big fish. Usually on trips like that they hook the fish and then hand the rods off. Thats what they should have done. They get paid to make ya'll happy. It just blows my mind that they faught most of the Kings. Kings are a prized possesion, for the screaming runs they make on conventional tackle. Glad that you got to experience one and the big blue. Beware, mustang the sea bug has bitten you, if you're not careful you will end up devoting your life to it. The disease this bug carries, like most others, gets very expensive, lol.
Great report!

I'm glad you had a good time. Sharks are fun to catch and the snapper put up alot of fight for their size. I would imagine if the snapper weren't Red Snapper they were Vermillion or Lane Snappers. All of them taste great as well as the Blacktip. Blacktip is 17.99 a pound at the Whole Foods Grocery Store.

Yeah I had a great time and didnt get sick once, so are there people that get sick and people that dont? We all took Bonine like you guys said. We took them the day before and the day of a hour before the trip. For the fist time in the deep blue I didnt get sick, but more then 3/4 of the boat did. Maybe I just have sea legs or the movement of the boat doesnt effect me. But your right im ready to go on another trip anytime anywhere now that i know i can handle it. We are taking off now from the hotel 6 hour trip back to San Angelo, pics tonight

Good job man, glad we could help. No, you are not exempt from being sea sick. It might never happen but you're not exempt. It's just simply confusing signals between what your eyes see and what your inner ear feels. Typcially, seasickness medicine is just a sedative for that particular nerve. Some people get sick every time which requires more expensive preventative like a perscription but even still sometimes that doesn't work. Personally, I've never been sick. I take medicine every time and have researched seasickness enough to minimize it's damage if/when it happens to me. It is 100% mental though. Some people can handle it, some can't. I've seen many expensive trips completely ruined by seasickness. At least you got a big enough fish to share with your buddies so the whole trip wasn't a bust.
Can't wait to see the pics! Be careful on your way home, it's really icy here today. It'll probably be mostly water by the time you get here but it's not suppossed to get over 30 today so it might still be ice.

A woman on a Casino Ship in Florida told my wife to eat Cocktail Olives to stop her queasy stomach and it worked... she was already feeling sick at the time. Next time you go off shore put a few olives in a Zippy Bag (No Glass) to have incase you get ill. Bazz

Heck yeah! nice to see some fish caught with all this nasty weather we have had down here.
Oh, by the way, thats not a blacktip shark. It's a Spinner. Good job on that fish. Better braggin rights with a Spinner than a pesky Blacktip.

I always bring a can of smoked oysters and a 1/2 gallon of buttermilk. That way I get more elbow room. Break em out and I can clear the deck of beginners.

Let me know how to like the shark. I quit eating them, they taste funny to me. Kind of like the smell of a funky urinal. Maybe I don't know how to cook them.

Pville The problem with sharks is they don't urinate and the urea builds up in their blood when they fight from getting caught. You need to hang and bleed sharks as soon as they get on the deck to have better tasting meat. Bazz

Cut the head and tail off, gut it, while it's still kicking if you can. put the carcass on ice till you get home. Primo meat if you do it that way. No skunky smell/taste.
also soak the the meat in milk over night before you cook it. That takes alot of the skunk out of shark meat if it's not bled right off the bat.
enjoy
