Next year, me and the wife are heading to Florida on kind of a fishing safari, where we will be flyfishing the everglades and canals around miami for peacock bass, snook, jacks, largemouth bass, and maybe some tarpon. Going with the same guide we've used for a few years, so finding fish shouldn't be a problem. While looking for other fishing opportunities in the area, I found a ferry service that runs from Ft Lauderdale to Grand Bahama Island for about $100 a person one way. I'd love to spend a 2 or 3 days chasing some bonefish or permit.
Has anybody done a DIY trip to that island? Or can recommend a guide who operates on a daily rate rather than a lodge that requires a stay of a couple days? I'd like to do a guided trip just to learn how to fish for bones or permit but I'd also like to attempt or on our own for a day or two also.
Thanks!

I'm headed that way in Nov. but I'll be staying/fishing out of Deep Water Cay. Check this blog out: DIY Bonefishing and as always Google Earth is your friend

Before I would be making any current plans check with your travel agent or travel information center. The Bahamas got hammered by a category 4 hurricane for about two days. According to news reports lots of damage and flooding.

And talking to some local guys I know from out there.
