Not comparing, just using as a frame of reference. I had an 89 F-150 with a 351 Windsor Motor and a C-6 Tranmsission that was twice the towing vehicle as my 200 Expedition was with that sorry arse 5.4 motor and whatever kind of tranny it had that was also a POS. That said, my son used to have a hemi powered ram that was way better at towing that this ford that Fernando is talking about.

Dad used to have a 351 Windsor with a c-6, it was a joke compared to the '94 GM with a TBI 350, which was a joke compared to a mid to late model 5.4.

change your fuel filter may help some.

Depending what year you owned, there was also a big difference between the 2 valve (1997-2004) and the 3-valve 5.4L (2005-2010). Completely different engines, especially when paired with a 6 speed tranny.

I can state with a fact that my '87 351 H.O. C6 out towed my 2001 5.4. I was towing on LBJ not long after they opened up the section though Irving and hit 95 with plenty of pedal left. Of course I was probably getting 5 MPG with that Holley opened up.

First off I wouldn't suggest towing your boat at 75 unless you have 18 to 20' wheels period. You have a 20 ft skeeter I'm guessing over 4k lbs. your going to get crappy mpg. I have a 5.3 gas Chevy and a 7.3 ford diesel. I would choose the 7.3 any day hand down honestly. I'm not a ford or Chevy guy and love both. But my diesel will 65 without me moving my foot of the accelerator. The 5.3 I have to feather the gas all the time over 50 mpg. This is the truth no matter what anyone says. Also your mpg sound normal towing a boat with a gas motor. Heck the tundra only get 18 on the highway without a boat. Try a diesel

yes it is definitely cheaper to keep what you got. unless you are towing every weekend, i wouldn't change anything.

Might not be a true statement with a 5.4. Although resale on them sucks too.
