Some of the older guys may know this tip but most of the younger guys will not. I know there are a lot of TFF pros that are on here that probably already do this. Either way I hope y'all enjoy and I know it'll end up saving you money in the long run.

I must be one of the "older guys". I've been doing this for a long time and it really does save expensive line.

I've been doing that for a long time on all my flipping reels but respool my cranking and Crig all the way with new line. Yes it will save a lot of $

Works, unless you are catching 20 pound redfish that run off 150 yards of line! For bass fishing.... works great.

I don't use braid for backing and I would like to make assumption no one else does either. I could be wrong though Do you ever use braid for backing?

I've always used mono for backing, but have since went to braid, heard more and more people using braid, being that it is lighter, gets the line coming off the reel easier or some such. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRxWUEvFeuc

Is smaller line like 10lb better for backing or is a bigger (thicker) line like 20 better? Any reason to one or the other or just personal preference? Thanks!

If you put braid as your backing your line will come off your reel faster youll get longer cast but youll need to adjust your reel or itll backlash
