Just wondering, when you are fishing with jigs and fishing brushpiles or docks, how ofter do you catch a bluegill/bream instead.

Usually pick up at least one on most trips. Some lakes more than others, like Fork or Palestine.

I couldn't get a crappie bite yesterday and the bluegill kept pulling my drawers down . Put on a 1/32 #8 and caught some nice ones. They are quite strong btw surprisingly so.
First u form habits, then they form u.

At least one every trip. If they are nibbling I usually move.

I ask because it seems if I am fishing docks or brushpiles in lets say 10' or less, the bluegills are killing me. If they were big, I would just catch those and eat them but only one in 7 or 8 is eating size. But if I am in over 10' of water, I don't get hit by the gills near as much. Just wondering if it was me or if everybody had that problem.

I always get the ones that eat out the eyes or belly of my minnows. I always wondered how the suck the eyes out of a minnow.

I target Bluegill a lot during the year. I also fish for Crappie especially during the winter and early spring. Usually catch a few gills using jigs while fishing the brush piles. Winter and summer are usually the times I catch the most Bluegill while fishing for Crappie using jigs. Side Note: Those Bluegill are pretty good eating also.
