What's the best or most effective way to rig Gulp shrimp? Do you put it on a jighead or just use a work hook or something? How do you put it on the hook? Thank you.

Hey Gator!......at first I thought your post read, "GULF Shrimp"LOL!

GULP shrimp work best for us with a jighead matched to the bait in terms of weight and hook, and generally very much like a plastic worm, except for the slip weight, (tie directly to the jighead, sans hardware). I believe some people use them in tandem also.

As much as I prefer the Palomar knot, here is a case for the "perfection loop" or the "double improved clinch-knot". Gives the bait a more aligned trail without sacrificing much (+-5%)
knot strength.

Good Luck Sir!

Thanks Leonardo. Haven't seen you much lately. The trips recently have been hard ones for the most part but we keep trying. I'm not so sure about this upcoming though. We may still give it a try if all we're going to see is showers. Thanks for the info. I keep getting more and more information from all of you fine people. Someday soon it's going to all come together. I get to pick up my new rod either tomorrow or Friday. That will be nice.

I have two methods of using Berkley Gulp Shrimp:

1. I use a 1/16oz - 1/8thoz Norton jighead thread from the head out the gut of the Berkley Gulp, keeping a straight appearance

2. Under a popping cork I use a 12in-18in leader with a 3/0 Kahle Hook threading from the base of the tail and bringing it out the stomach of the Berkley Gulp Shrimp. A split shot or free line depending on the depth of the trout or reds.

I use the penny guld on a jig head with no paint just lead and that works really good for flounder.

Right now the best technique with any bait is a slow retrieve. The temp. of the water ususlly determines how fast I retrive my bait. Any bait. The trout and reds will be holding up in deep holes right now. When the sun comes up and heats up the flats they will move out on the flats. I like to fish the deep holes from shallow to deep. Work it with a small jig head as small as possible 1/16th if what I prefer right now. On the retreive jerk it and let is set for a sec or two then hit it again. The small jig head lets it sink slowly. The trout will suck it up on the fall. The ICW is HOT right now weather permitting. Cast to the grass and work it back to you. Have fun! Early in the morning use a darker color, also use darker in cloud cover. When the sun comes up good switch to a lighter color.
