Lou r Pitcher Extreme Angler L Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 1,711	Two attributes are very important for choosing deep cycle batteries: 1) Reserve Capacity (RC minutes) 2) Allowable safe dishcharge %. You will have to research safe discharge %. Example: A 200 minute flooded lead acid will typically only allow a 50% safe discharge and is a smaller battery with less capacity to run your trolling motor than a 140 minute battery such as an Odyssey AGM. The Odyssey AGM can be safely discharged using up to 80% of its rated capacity and deliver over 400 discharge/charge cycles in its life. (100 usable minutes < 112 usable minutes)

The higher RC the longer they will last throughout the day and you don't discharge them as much so you will get more cycles (charges/discharges) out of them I just bought some Interstate SRM-29's deep cylcle for my trolling motor. They have a RC of 210 and for the 129.95 price I couldn't beat them. My last set of Interstates were going on 4 years when I sold my boat and still going strong. Best flooded cell battery out there IMO.

I'm a stickler for good name brands on marine batteries. But I've had a few mechanics and people in the industry tell me there's 2 different factories that make them and companies just place them into their plastic container and throw stickers on them.

Also, about the brand, I had an ex whose dad worked for Johnson Controls. They make more batteries than anyone, but is a brand most people aren't familiar with.
